EcoTech Vortechs

I am currently running the 2 Hydor Koralia 2's on there Wavemaker Controler one on each back corner pointing towards the center. I also have a thrid Hydor Koralia 2 in the back center blowing up and towards center. I am thinking of rplacing them with Vortech(s). Which ones should I go with and how many? MP10's or Mp40(s)?

Depending on how you have it aquascaped one would probably be fine. That said I would start with one mp40 and if you think you need more flow add a second. Maybe even a mp40 and a mp10.

The standard 55 is tricky since it is so tall and skinny.

If you have the funds for 2 mp40s then I would go that route. You would however be turning them down quite a bit since at full blast it will make short work of your sand. Just the nature of prop pumps on 55g tanks.

Having 2 will give you the chance to really see the random flow that they are capable of. I tried the Hydors you have and they dont even compare to the Vortechs. If you dont mind the noise you'll be very happy switching to Vortech

Your mileage will vary with regard to noise. If you have a super-quiet system and the pump is facing the room you'll definitely hear it; on the other hand if you do have some background noise and align it with a stethoscope I doubt you'd regret buying one.

I seriously doubt you'd need two in a 55 unless you're planning on surfing in it. I'd get one and spend the rest of the money on a wider tank :)

For reference, I've got a 33 with two MP10s running at 100%. The SPS could probably take more flow. They are cool with it. But LPS have to be kept way distant from the flow, for otherwise its way too much for them.

I have a 40g long (same length as a 55) I run 1 mp10 at one end and 2 425 koralias at the other. I am going to upgrade to a 2nd mp10 to replace the 425's. The mp40 is just too rich for me. I have no sps so don't need really high flow, the softies and LPS seem happy enough.
