Can you point me to the part of your thread that goes into the problems you've had with the current lighting? I'd like to read it.

And that number I came up with is purely fictitious. I'm not that old. :D

The fact that my son is turning 23 in a few months is a good clue too, right?

Thanks for the links, I'll go read what has occurred.

T-5 ORDERS PLACE

T-5 ORDERS PLACE

OK, place my orders for my new lighting fixture….no turning back now  It should takes about a month or two for delivery :sad2:

In the meanwhile, will use this time to fix my water issue as I’m starting to get red slime algae since the change of my lights :worried:

One thing I love about my Solaris is less algae growth :lol2:

Ed, if you post in the Feedback & Questions forum. Then a mod should be able to help change the thread title. Which light unit is it you ordered?

Thanks Kane - order 2 x unit ATI Power Module T5 Dimmable 880mm 10 X 39W. This way it also gives me the flexibility of upgrades to larger or cube, the choice is endless :D

cool choice BTW, I'm looking forward to seeing how you like it as I have been looking at the ATI T5's as well.

Best of luck on your new choice.

he said he got two of them, so my guess is that the length of two 39w fixtures is just right for the tank.

were you able to get an estimated delivery/ship date? I ordered my 4x39w ATI for frag tank in early february. Last week, Greg from reefgeek said they are just now sending them.....

Thanks BigJay - agree with a good reflector 250w should work for my tank !! However I'm not a DYI guy like Marc or some of you guys here (can't let this hobby take up any more time like it already has.... :D) so if I were to go for a combo, then the Spectra will be an great option but have to wait for a longer shipping date :p

Yeah, sad about my Solaris but life goes on..... :p What we do without a little sense of humor in this hobby  Look like I need to change my thread title  anyone knows how I can do that??

I'm not really that good of a DIY guy either. I was just lucky enough to get Marc to help with mounting my lights on my canopy. :D The result is really a work of art.

I have three Lumenmax 3 with 250w Phoenix 14k bulbs plus 4 x 80w T5s on an Icecap 660 in a DIY aluminum angle frame, suspended by a bicycle lift. Not the most elegant combination, but it works and was inexpensive. Total watts = 1150w included the overdriven T5s. I may rebuild with 400w pendants, probably Lumenbright, which I would have positioned higher. Even with 20k bulbs I would be able to move the fixture higher and have more even light intensity down to the sand bed. I feel the gradient with the 250w is a bit harsh, requiring careful placement of corals.

I definitely would not worry about T5s penetrating to the bottom. Acting as a line source, they actually seem to penetrate water better than point source lights like MH. But of course they don't shimmer.

If you go with MH pendants, you may want to consider VHOs instead of T5s. They have an internal reflector which, while not as effective, makes them take up less space. And the UVL Actinic VHO bulb is incomparable -- I'm actually thinking about switching my fluorescent supplementation from T5 to VHO.

Right on Ryan - two 39w fixture will cover my tank end-to-end with no dark spot. Was tempted to order the 80w fixture but this will leave me with 2 dark spots on each end :( and also limited my future upgrades...

They gave me an estimated 1-2 months delivery

You're lucky to have Marc nearby.... :D

interesting that changing the lights seems related to the algae bloom. Maybe the spectrum of the new(old?:) ) lights is more favorable to the algae?
