G-man or ATI will work just fine its truly up to you, you Really cant go wrong.

Thanks buddy

Btw, apart for T5, should I decided to go with a combo, do you think G-Mann reflector and 250W will be good enough for a tank my depth?? I hate to have to go 400w to be honest as it might just be a little too much lights but 250w seem to be a little too little.

Ooooh why they don't make something in between??? :D

250w 14.5k coral bulbs with 4 G- man aquablue is how i would set it up, if you dont mind the really white look the 10k bulbs will be really bright. the i think the ballasts are around 290-310w HQI for the MH.

do you missed those glitters from MH since you started using T5??

I sell T-5 units along with all the other types of lighting and after I tell someone about the merits of T-5s I'm usually asked why I don't use them. My reply is very simple. It's because I have tanks for my enjoyment and I enjoy the glitter/ ripple effect halides give. I also enjoy having less bulbs, sockets , cords, and plugs to deal with. I think you should ask yourself what is it you really want from a lighting system (we will assume health and growth are givens) and go with whatever you like / want.

Thanks Nick - so you also agree I don't have to go with 400w MH??

ELOS testkits

ELOS testkits

OK.....while I'm getting confuse with my lighting selections, life must go on so here are some other updates (not light related) :D

Test Kits
Can’t get it here locally but I was fortunate that there are so many great reefer friends here online that help me to get them from the US and ship them over to me…

All test kits are packed in a seal plastic bag for max freshness… (Salifert are you listening??) This is the 1st time I’m using Elos test kit but I must say the initial impression is  up compare to other test kits !!

Will test this weekend and compare the results against my Salifert :p

Looks like they increased the accuracy of their kh kit.

Mine (that i got about 8 months ago), is 1 drop = 1 dkh it might take more reagent now, but you will get a more accurate result!

also, the Ca kit looks like it got revamped too!! Looks i should get some new kits...

edit:
looks like all three of the kits that you have got updated... ahhhh... nice!

Ryan,

From what I know, it's supposed to be 1 drop = 0.5 dkh but there was one batch where there was some printing error on the instruction paper (even mine) but the card instruction is correct :D

SOLARIS REMOVED & OLD LIGHTING FIXTURE INSTALLED

SOLARIS REMOVED & OLD LIGHTING FIXTURE INSTALLED

Meanwhile, have removed the Solaris and installed back my ‘old trusty’ fixture to be used temporary until I decided what to do :eek1:

Solaris decommission:

Old Light Fixture up and in Action:

Not a very pretty fixture but it’s very reliable as it was running for 1.5 years in my old tank :D Good thing I have not sold it yet :mixed:

interested to see what you come back with on a new lighting solution. I'm currently in the same boat but I have 4x 60" Solaris I series that actually are brand new and unused so far... but I'm already looking for options in case I have some problems.

I guess a plus side to the T5's is that you get better light spread then MH, and of course far better then LED.

Sorry to hear about all your issues but I look forward to seeing your solution as well. :D

good luck!

Ed sorry to hear about your troubles with the Solaris. But I am also glad that people are testing them to find all the issues, I am still really hoping to be able to go LED-only at some point :)

you are very lucky you still have that other fixture. Might have been trouble to have a wait a couple weeks for a replacement!

Best of luck, have fun picking out the 'long term' replacement!

I agree with Nick that you do not need 400W halides, but they couldn't hurt.

Ed,
If you go with all T5s, you won't be sorry. And they will definitely light up the bottom of your tank.

Thanks Chris, good to know a lot of people is saying no problem with my tank depth on T5

Thanks Ryan, yeah sad with the Solaris as overall I think it's a very cool fixture but the QC and build quality just leave too much to be question.

Yeah good thing my old fixture was still lying around as I have actually just pack it in the box last week and was just about to put it out for sale :D Good old trusty

TOPDOWN BOX

TOPDOWN BOX

Finally arrived….

Thanks Marc once again......

I must say the build quality is excellence  Amazing how fast it got here from the States to China (faster than it was being build hahahaha) :lol2:

However, will not be taking any pictures with it for the time being as my corals are still brown out from the PO4 issues, not to mention the lights issue :sad2: so temporary it’s a spy glass on my fishes privacy  :D
