I have a feeling Ed is being a much bigger man than most would be about this light situation, many would be quick to talk badly about PFO but Ed has been restrained.

hopefully soon we can get back to enjoying pictures of his aquarium and fish.

Thanks Nick....but I thought about it and honestly I don't see the point not the benefits.

At this moment I want to do what's best for my tank... :D

I agree, I know how I'd be about the situation but it helps when the distributor is being as equally fair.

That's true...distributors makes a huge difference and that's why sometimes I try to order for one good distributor rather than try to save a few bucks and order bits and pieces everywhere and when there is problem you don't know where to turn to :p

WATER PARAMETER UPDATES….

WATER PARAMETER UPDATES….

Water parameter results for this week……

➢ Temperature â€"œ 26.8 degree C
➢ Salinity â€"œ 1.026
➢ Ph â€"œ 8.16
➢ NO3 â€"œ less than 2 (Salifert â€"œ very light pink…almost non-color)
➢ dKH â€"œ 9.6 (Old Salifert test kit â€"œ higher than last week??)
➢ dKH â€"œ 9.0 (New Salifert test kit â€"œ down from last week??)
➢ dKH â€"œ 7.5 (API test kit â€"œ same as last week - start changing to yellow on 7 drop and completely yellow on 8 drop)
➢ dKH â€"œ 7 (Elos test kit â€"œ samer as last week)
➢ Ca â€"œ 440 (Salifert test kit â€"œ down from last week)
➢ Ca â€"œ 440 (Elos test kit)
➢ Mg â€"œ 1320 (Salifert test kit - same as last week)
➢ Mg â€"œ 1150 (Elos test kit â€"œ down from last week of 1250)
➢ PO4 â€"œ 0 (untraceable using Salifert â€"œ defiantly came down from last week)
➢ PO4 â€"œ 0.11 (D&D PO4 â€"œ come down from last week)
➢ Potassium â€"œ380 (will remain my dosage of K-balance at 4ml/day)

Summary:
Based on my dKH testing, I will throw away my Salifert test kit as it give me inconsistent result each week, where else API and Elos has been consistent

As for Ca and Mg, I will continue to test with both Salifert and Elos to see which one have consistency in the results

As for my PO4, it’s coming down slowly but at least it’s headed onto the right directions

SOLARIS I-SERIES FINAL REVIEW

SOLARIS I-SERIES FINAL REVIEW

Final Review
OK, thought I would write my final review on Solaris as a user after 3 months + with actual corals and fishes in tank.

Polyps appear within minutes they are in my new tank….all SPS are showing good PE and seem to be doing fine under the new lights. Light setting, I slowly increase the whites from 30% to 80% every 10 to 14 days to let the corals acclimate to the new lightings level as in my previous tank they were under 3 x MH250W - don’t want to burn them…. :p

Night mode and cloudy sky mode are my favourite but so far can’t see any benefits for my fishes nor corals. I think it’s only a concept more than anything else but cool otherwise.

So far, no squeaky fans and light fixture is very silence. You will have to put your ears next to the fixture to hear anything.

Problems Encounter
2 LED stopped working once I increase the intensity above 60%. With the 2 Led not working, this has also caused some of the LED to start blinking, due to uneven power distribution, I was told.

Replacement of the Led strip was easy as it’s a matter of removing 4 screw and replace the blown LED strip with the new strip. PFO send me the replacement strip within 2 weeks

Then another issue is day white (DW) LED refusing to shut off during the night mode!! PFO suspect this is cause by a faulty Transistor board, which accordingly to them they only encounter twice. They have sent me 3 version of Transistor board to exchange but still do not solve the issue.

Comes close to the 3 month usage timeline, one of the 3 power supply also died on me, follow by another power supply two days later … :mad2: This leave only 2 section of LED lighted up, out of total 6 section. I open up the Power supply and apparently the condenser has blown so that was obviously a major concern for me as this can cause fire hazard!!

Summary
Overall I still think Led lights are great as it gives you the flexibility to adjust both colors and brightness with a press of a button. No more worries about what type MH bulb or T5 tubes color combo to buy and experience and experience and experience until you get something you like :D Not to mention the easy maintenance and the replacements of LED :p

Defiantly for those who cannot make up their mind on the colors of their lights….me being one of those people !! In the past I have tried so many different combo actins and MH bulbs and still can never get the light color combo I like and with a LED lighting fixture, this is so easy.

Heat is almost non-existent. During the time I was using Solaris, my temperature was consistent at 27.5 degree and now that I have taken down my Solaris and used my old 250w MH with 2 x 54w T5, my temperature went up to 28.2 degree…

Also for those considering using LED, to note that the light shine down like a spot so you don’t have too much lights over throw at your glass panel, which in return causes less algae growths and makes your life of cleaning the glass panel a breeze, especially when you have a Peninsular set-up, like mine.

Only wish is the build quality and QC could be better. :mad2: Understand the frustrations some went through to get replacement parts via PFO but I was lucky as their distributor in Singapore just give 1st class service throughout this whole ordeal :)

ADD FLOWS….

ADD FLOWS….

Yes, with the $ saving from my Solaris, I decided to add more flow into the tank….

Wanted to wait for the new Tunze 6105 Stream 2 but since there is no definite date on the availability in this part of the world, decided to go with 2 unit of Vortech mp40w Gen 2 instead as I plan to put at the far end of my tank so wanted something very low profile. It’s in shipment now and should arrived within end of this week or early next week

Will post pictures once I received. This should give my tank plenty of flow and no more dead spots :D

Now total flow in my tank with 2 x 6201, Wavebox, 2 x Vortech mp40 and my strong Hammerhead return pump should give my fishes their daily exercise…in future, might even add on 2 Seaswirl on my return for more random flow

Excellent choice on the vortechs. I run a pair myself, one on each side.

The fish love to play in the current.

you will like the vortechs Ed, i think they are a great pump.

Hope so...this is the 1st time I'm using Vortech but love how small the pump profiles are  Hopefully the 'sound' issues wil not be too much of an issue with me as my return does give a gentle humming sound anyway

Btw, any news on the new ATB Automatic Zeovit Reactor?? Got yours yet?

no news yet, i just ordered a new external skimmer so i can fit the reactor in my sump when it does arrive though.

i think it just takes time to build stuff in Austria they probably have restrictions on how long you can work each day like in france. If this was being built in China im sure we would all have one allready.:D

What City are you in in China Ed?

Saw your CNC skimmer - looks sweet :D

I'm in Fuzhou - China - which is South of China (about an hour and 15 min flight from HK)

Keep us posted on the Zeoreactor...tell them to give me the specs and I will get someone in China to make it in a week

HEy, aren't you supposed to be attending the Olympics, or doing some job like carrying an oar? ;)

that would be like a guy in san francisco carrying an oar for a rower in atlanta.
