Sanjay I am going to have to back out. I was reminded today that my wedding anniversary is this weekend.

Please tell Joe thanks for the opportunity to collect with LIRA.

Carl

Carl,
I just sent ya a pm.. since reading your last post just disregaurd...
If we get some pods I'll be sure and bring some back for ya...

Mal, I'll be at your place by 4 ish...

Sanjay, I see you are leaving about 3-4 pm. You know we have to go through NY city and you are going to get there at the worse time. I was thinking on leaving about 6 so we get to NY at 8. The later the better to miss some of that traffic.

My son was commuting to Long Island through there for three months and it is a real mess. He said we can get stuck for hours at rush hour.

How late can we arive at Atlantis? It is about (200 miles) 4.5 hours for me if we don't get stuck too bad. I don't like to sit in bumper to bumper traffic.

Did you decide on a route?

Pleae let me know.

Thanks
Mal

Hey Mal

It's 355 miles from Altoona about 310 from State college. Easy
5 + hours for us. should put us at the GW bridge about 7:30 -8:00
My experience it's bumper to bumper no mater what time of day.

See you soon

Bill

Mal:

I am hoping to get there by 9:30 PM. The last time I drove from here it was 5 and half hrs door to door. So I have already factired in an extra hour for traffic situations.

All others planning to get there should shoot for getting there by 9:30 PM.

PM me your cell phone numbers... and we can keep in touch on the road, and to coordinate things.

I am going to have to work tonight, so I am not going to make the trip.

Tim called and told me he is sick, so he and Lisa are not going to make it.

Sorry for he last minute changes. I was looking forward to it.

Thank Joe for us and possibly we can make it another time.

Thanks

Mal

wow what a trip. well worth the price in just being there
after we collected things from the ocean we got to take a behind the scenes tour of the aquarium and even got to snorkel with the sting ways(yes they were debarbed no croc. hunter deal there lol)

we are talking about doing this agian next year.

Yes, this trip is a must. I will post more about my time when I am not so tired from the ride back! Lots of fun, and I found some places to hunt and gather that Atlantis didn't take us to but told me where to go. When we go again I can help guide you guys to the location(s) that were pretty productive.

thanks,

Rick

BIg Thanks to Joe and the Atlantis staff (Todd and Chris) for making this a very memorable trip for everyone, and for going beyond our expectations as a host.

The reef tank was awesome and even better than what I saw last Nov, and the great behind the scenes tour, close encounters with the animals, watching Jaws devour 10 lbs of food, and snorkling was just icing on the cake. It was not until 4:30 PM many of us realized that we had not even seen the exhibits from the front side.. it was so much fun seeing the behind the scenes and staying behind the scenes.

The collecting trip was fun even though we did not get as many tropicals as they had in the past there was still enough to go around with fish, snails, shrimp, silversides, lots of critters in the algae clumps, and lots of cool looking algae too.

Those of you who missed it, missed a fun time. We wont talk about the Kariokee, but we do have a few people hooked on Kamakazi's now. Watch out Bill !!!

let's see those pics !!

Ok
It's 5:30 p.m. I'm finally awake enough to type. Returning home at 1:30 a.m. & aclimating a bunch of stuff , kept me up most of the night.

But, was it ever worth it!!!!

Thanks Sanjay & Brad for making this "club event" the best ever.

Thanks also to Joe, Todd & Chris & every other Atlantis employee
we encountered, spoke to, tripped over etc. Everyone was just wonderful to us. Especially the lifeguard at the snorkle tank that rescued Amy from the too frisky ray.

I waited a long time to do this, & now I'm ready to go again, real soon.....but let's charter a bus next time.

See you soon

Bill

It sounds like it was a great trip. Sorry I could not make it. I ended up working until very late. We will be looking for more info from you guys about the trip. Any photos?

Good to see everyone, and thanks for the ice cream Sanjay.
There are some pics of the trip at:

Lets certainly formalize a trip for next September and we'll work out a more structured schedule. I would recommend maybe a later collecting time (mid to late afternoon), that would allow you guys time to travel up in the a.m., go collecting then spend the night, and do the aquarium the following day.

Here is a pic of the tank

It was a fantastic day! Thanks Joe and Todd for allowing us "free run" of the aquarium! It was a reefer's dream to see the large-scale versions of what we have in our homes. Thanks Sanjay for making this all possible! Bill and Amy, thanks once again for driving us!

I didn't bring home many critters, but I did bring home something priceless :-)

Welcome to Margaritaville, or should I say kamakazi-ville!

It's a shame I missed it.... We weren't sure how long you'd be around or when you were touring so we didn't want to take the chance of getting there and the place being locked up. So my fiance and I drove up as your typical tourist on Sunday since we were in Manhattan for the weekend.

I took about 100 shots from normal side of the glass so I'll sort through those and post some of the good ones later this week. It was my first real "trip" with the new Digital SLR so we'll see how I did. :)

I will definitely be interested in going the next time around although more for the behind the scenes tour than the netting stuff. I hope you folks don't wait too long...I doubt I would drive there again just to see the aquarium from the front...don't get me wrong..it was awesome..but we left there around 5pm (they had to throw us out) and we didn't get home until midnight. Long Island Expressway and Manhattan traffic s*cks!

Anyway..next time I go will have to be a carpool and I'd like to do more there...so we'll see!

What an awesome trip! This would be an great annual event. We enjoyed seeing everyone! We were very lucky to have such beautiful weather. The outdoor snorkel with rays was fantastic! :love2: Definately my favorite part. The behind the scenes tour was pretty sweet too! Joe, a big thank you for your hospitality. I wish there had been more time. At least there was enough to serenade Joe with our fantastic singing :lmao:
