Eggs Hatching!

Well my Bimac's eggs are starting to hatch. So far there are a few swimming around in their little octopus condo (more on this later).

I'll try to get some photos but they are tiny little buggers. They look like miniature cuttlefish.

I have one question. Does anyone know how long they feed on their yolk after hatching? I don't want to feed them before they are going to eat it.

Thanks,
Jared

I think 24 hours. Start feeding amphipods ASAP, or copepods, or anything small enough for them to eat. The food needs to be smaller than the octo's mantle.

I've been scraping pods from my main tank but it seems like not enough and I can't find any places around here that sell them. I did get some zooplankton that I think will work if I crush it up a bit. Any ideas?

You can buy frozen Mysis and grate it with a cheese grater to make smaller pieces (while still frozen of course :) ). I don't have an octo, but this works great for seahorses, anemones, corals that need smaller foods.

Ahahaha! My mom would FLIP if she saw me using her cheese grater to shave mysis, LOL!

I think that baby octos only eat live food. Well, for the most part. There are those instances though...just as with seahorse fry...
