ehiem 1262 vs water blaster 5000

Looking for a solid retune pump. I want to run the pump external and have it be pretty silent. I have used all kinds of pumps and thought these 2 might give me what i'm looking for. What would be a better pick between these or if you have somthing your using that silent let me know.

If it were me, I would go with the Laguna over either of those. Eheims are great, but the 1262 is not really that quiet and the WB appears to be a Chinese knockoff of the Laguna, and given the few issues with exploding impellers and meltdowns with the WB that have come up, it makes sense to go with the Laguna.

I dont care where the pumps are made... coralvue stands behind there products for a full 3 yrs. I had a volute leak on a 2 yr old 3000 and Jeremy sent out a new one without seeing a receipt. My bubble blaster and water blaster pumps are also pretty quiet.

Can't go wrong with either IMO. I have a WB-HY-7000 (for a 180 gallon) which runs quiet and is energy efficient compared to even the Eheim.

I've run Eheim 1260s for years with no issues, and they are quiet. They are also very easy to pull apart and clean. The ability to pull off the inlet faceplate and leave it attached to the hose barb when removing the pump is great for ease of maintenance. I see no need myself to ever change pumps. They're completely rebuildable and don't really cost much all things considered.

So you would reccomend a Kia over a Honda simply because it has a longer warranty? Flawed logic my friend.

MSX and ATB sell their own version of the Laguna as well. FOr the ATB it is the Flowstar pumps. The laguna 1500 is the next pump I am trying, all the reviews I have read whether it be a return pump or skimmer pump are dead silent. I used a BB blaster 2000 on my SRO, and while nowhere near obnoxiously loud, it is still audible when nothing else is running. Same with Eheims, they are not silent pumps, especially the 1262. Quieter than most other pumps sure.

Amazon is also a good place, but with that comes warranty issues. These pumps have been around a long time, I got my first one, a Hagen 9xx back in 2005 I believe. Hagen is the parent company for Laguna, so you know it is not a fly by night operation. While I do like the WaterBlasters, it is still a dupe of a well known product and I would rather have an original instead of a copy. If you were one of the people who had a pump meltdown that polluted their tank, you would be more inclined to agree. Every product can and does have issues, and CoralVue is an outstanding company that takes care of the ones they have, and I don't recall ever hearing of a Laguna or Hagen melting down or having exploding impellers, but it is always possible.

I doubt you would have issues with any of the products mentioned, so it just becomes a question of what you want.

EHEIM 20 yrs Still running NOT ever a problem!! and that goes for 2217 canisters as well as their pumps. NO other product can claim that relability that I know of IMO.

I got my 1500 on Amazon for under $100 IIRC. They go on sale all the time. I popped mine out of the pond cage and glued on a union an voila instant reef pump:

Super quiet and more powerful than expected and it seems to suck down only about 70W while running my manifold that has a return, BP reactor, GFO reactor and separate refuge line. It puts out much more water than my old Mag9.5 all the while using less electricity. I think also because these things were designed to work in dirty ponds they don't seem phased by debris which should make them very robust.
