Eightline Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus octotaenia

So our local LFS recently got in a shipment of three juvenile eight line flasher wrasse. When I say juvenile I mean juvenile each of the fish are about an inch long. They look like fancy minnows.

So I'm curious as to what's everyone's thought about purchasing the three has raising them? Or would you not risk it because of the size? They seem healthy, eating and swimming around just concerned about the size. Also the price I believe is extremely good for 3 of them.

I've always had an affection towards eight lines, since I lost a beautiful male a year ago to an ich outbreak in a different tank.

Thanks

Also anyone's experience with raising a group of females into a 'harlem' would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'd do it in a heartbeat, assuming you had an appropriate tank for them. So long as you don't have any fish that'd harass them, I wouldn't worry too much about size. They still will be a bit prone to getting sucked into a powerhead or overflow however.

One of them will transition to male as they mature; no worries about that.

Thanks Hunter. As you can probably tell my previous post the only fish that I might have agression issues with is my Marjorie. Other then that I don't think my leopards or clowns will pay them any attention.

But I doubt it as they are different species and a lot smaller than her/he (thinks its in converstion). Beautiful color (red) but underbody isn't showing the white yet. Tail is a mixture of red and yellow and there is a little blue on the dorsal fin.

So I know have three baby eight line flasher wrasse, plus a little bonus (which I'll have to worry about tank size a little later).

The little bonus was one tank over and at first glance looked like a cryptic wrasse but on second glance it had a purple hue, yellow eyes and a black spot by its caudal fin. I did a double take because I can't remember seeing one ever this small, except in pictures. Any guesses?

All of them are doing great, swimming around and eating.

I lost one but the other two are doing great. Still small fat females. Also at the same time I picked up a juvenile lineatus who seems to be growing leaps and bounds. So hopefully she'll change. I'll try to get some pictures.

Good luck with the eight lines, they are one of my favorite wrasses. I will get another pair or male at least soon I hope. I should have never sold them.

Thanks...I'm a little concerned if one will convert. I currently have them housed with the following wrasses.

Potters Leopard Wrasse (Male)
Lineatus Fairy Wrasse (Appears to be converting)
Marjorie Wrasse (Female)
Hooded Fairy Wrasse (Male)

One should convert no problem, they are the only flashers so nothing should stop one of them. No clue how long it will take though.

Nice, good to hear.
I had a tiny one as well that didn't make it in qt. But I picked up a pair for $60 a week ago. They are doing great. The male has a beautiful purple hue that I can't wait to see him under my LEDs rather than the white t5 in qt.

It'll happen with time.
