Well I finally got min, $500

We were running th AC in the house all month at 78 degrees.

I have raised that to 80 and reduced the lighting period by 1.5 hours.

I also have sold my seahorse so that tank will not be 80 instead of 74, that should save some power.

I am trimming everything as thin as I think I can... $500 and the tanks will not last long, at least it is only hot like this for 3 months.

Mind you the last bill was $300, so AC is accounting for the jump, I think.

I feel for you. I just got my bill and it was 570 for 33 days. I used less than last year and it was 250 more this year. By the way I have 2 AC units and they are not hooked up yet with the remodel so all I used was fans. The good news is I insulated the house real well and with all the windows closed on these hot days, downstairs is only 77-78 and the upstairs is 83-84. Pretty good with no AC!! At least I think so.

I am actually going to play with my lighting by keeping the same period, but have only half the lights on at one time. Thinking that the corals will get the intense light for 5 hours and indirect for another 5. If this worls it will cut the power big time!!!

they day my bill hits $500 is the day I quit this hobby :D Last bill was $170 which is about $40 more then average. The extra $40 is from the 8+ fans we have running inside the house (geto house no ac)

My bill before it started getting hot was about $125. Since then my bills have been around $325. It's my a/c that's messing my bill up lol. My home has old insulation so it gets pretty hot in the house without the a/c on. Yesterday I got home from work and it was 90 degrees in there!

reefguy714, can I get dibs? hehehe j/k

I think in anaheim, we are subsidized or saved from the greed of private companies.

Dang......see what happens when you AC fish tanks ;) I hope my bill aint so large when it comes....I have no AC but have been running fans a lot

It sucks... but it is not the reef alone...

The reef keep be way above Baseline, so when you have to run AC 10 hours a day it sudenly slams the bill hard.

A/C will kill you on bills. My bill actually went DOWN from the last one. I attribute that to slightly shortening my MH photoperiod (5 hours from 6, now down to 4.5) and hooking up switches to some devices that draw lots of power when OFF. I don't have A/C, but two fans for the house and 6 for the tank!

i live at home with the parents(like2400sqft) and we were at $400 last month and $566 this month. All AC, nothing else has changed, but yes I am making some tank changes. Making three tanks into one. save time and money that way. Then in a couple months I'll be wanting another tank, haha. this addicting hobby.

my bill is $500 - $600 for 2 months. And i get my bill from LA DWP they have raised the rates like crazy... I run my house AC and my 300 gallon tank... $500 a month is CRAZY...

I used $10 fan from walmart to blow directly on the sump 24/7, it keep the tank temp at 78 even with the light on. cut the light hour from 6hr to 4, turn off skimmer at night, it will help some with electricity.

I beleive it would make more sense to turn your skimmer off during the day. That way you are keeping the PH up at night with the extra oxygen in the tank and cut the heat of the pump during the day.

Mine was $176 for the last period.

The next period should be the same except we are running the house AC a little less, (not at night anymore).

Josh

if you guys haven't already done so....slowly reverse your lighting cycle to after 6PM....wash and dry your clothes at night, and if your are not home during the day set the A/C on a timer to turn on half an hour before you get home.....This knocked my eletricity bill down a lot...

What am I doing wrong? My damn house is only 1400 sqft?

I must be in an area where the baseline is killing me. Is there a way to challenge the baseline number?
