Electrobes' K.I.S.S. 40Br Thread

How did you like Eric's? Did they still have the tang in the BioCube? I've been there a few times but have never bought anything.

I've given up on Aqueon and have heard of great things with Perfecto tanks nowadays. I am REALLY hoping this tank will be the one that works as I would really like to get the shenanigans done with. >:(

This is great news Christian!

According the the MarineLand / Perfecto website, only the bottom pane of glass is tempered, so you could drill it if you wanted to (down the road of course :D). I am 100% satisfied with the quality of the Perfecto 120 XH that I picked up a few months back. Nice, clean silicone (black in my case), clean edges, properly aligned panels, etc.. all make me.... :bounce1::bounce2::bounce3:H A P P Y:bounce3::bounce2::bounce1:

If I were to be perfectly honest I've never liked small shops that encompass more than one animal industries. If the shop was just the aquarium business I bet it would be more manageable, cleaner, smell better, etc. It's just too small to have all those animals in one shop.

The lady that works there is very nice and helpful. The shop itself unfortunately (As in saltwater) needs a lot of help. The tanks are hurting something bad, little livestock for sale, not clean, etc.

I'm glad to help out a shop, but TBH I just didn't want to travel to another city just to have to go back and get it replaced.. I've driven enough.

Meuserreef: I think God may want me to drill, but I am fighting the notion for now. I had to wait for my wife to finish her haircut (Her car was getting a flat fixed). While I was waiting I saw a Quarse (sp?) supply shop by that sold plumbing, lighting, tools supplies. I popped in and found that they sell schedule 80 plumbing parts, but also actually had diamond hold cutters in stock. Shocking!

This is what bothers me... I know I should do a sump for the added benefits. I just don't like'em. I prefer the the space under the stand for a kalk bin and maybe a seperate frag system (unattached to the main display). That's going to be a whole 'nother project :D

I guess we'll see, knowing me I'll come back, seen the light, and change everything

I like the coral plan and glad you have a tank ordered, one more thing out of the way. This should be an awesome tank set up. I really want a little mushroom tank but am trying to resist as I have enough tanks already.

Hehe I know what you mean. Best excuse to the wife or g/f? It's a frag tank to sell corals :D

Some of the worst things about doing things right that I've learned quickly (niuk niuk get it?):

- I've had to pass up some great deals and/or group buys (Reef Club). I've already seen some great deals on the coral selling section, etc. One that makes me want to cry was the 20 ricordeas and the PPE palys for 248.00 with free shipping from Zoanuts. They had beautful stock in and it was the one time where I was going to not go aquacultured. :D

- People think you're nuts when you stare at your culturing rocks. I've had friends, family, etc just laugh when I am looking into the bin of rocks. If only they knew the awesomeness that is an upcoming reef build! :p

The Cycle Starts and other Insights

The Cycle Starts

I finally got to witness the rocks start cycling.. took a while! Most of the rocks are brown covered but the LR rubble equaled out as they are back with the corraline algae.

The water removed on the rock bin is still pee-looking, though not as bad. I am still looking at late May/early June till the rocks are ready for the display.

Something odd I've been doing is occasiocally leaving the daylight bulb on with the actinics.. not sure. I just like looking at the rocks under full lighting (cool color) and I forget to turn it off. I call it "Not shocking corals with the daylight bulb when the magic actually happens". Yeah that's it...

The Controller:

I've decided against using one at this time as my tank is far too simple to require it's use. If I had an SPS tank with the extra gadgetry (And those corals are far more sensitive) I'd get one no questions asked.. but honestly I don't need one on this K.I.S.S. tank. I'd rather spend the money on a sweet aquacultured coral pack of shrooms, ricordeas, and zoo's. :D

Corals and Design:

I have started looking into corals and even adding people to my contact list for availability. As you can guess most of these contacts (if not all) are fellow reefers. Since I am looking for small frags and aquacultured ones.. whom better to get them from? ;)

I am still looking at using the following theme.. and it's a bit easier to imagine it as a tree on a hill with wild-flowers. I am still doing a slanted hill, and the ground cover will be rics, zoos, and mushrooms. I intend on having the "tree" be one of the following (addition was at the suggestion of the wife).

- Flexiblis leather (Very thin-branched Spaghetti Leather)

OR

- Branching Frogspawn or Hammers.

It's odd to think of having any SPS or even LPS in my tank but I may make the exception on this one.

I should get some pics up of the exciting world of rock cycling today ;) I need to start an actual list of specific rics, mushrroms, and zoos that I want. I already have my fish list and there ain't much else I can do till the rocks are ready!

Some random present day photos

Some random present day photos

Argh RC just took a dump on me and lost all my typings and photos I tried posting.. ARGH! Here we go again...

The Rock Bin and Rocks

I do have flow in the tank (Koralia #3) but I have it turned off for the photo shoot :D For those who are curious all my lights are on that will be on the display... 3 X 95W VHO's. As of right now it's two super actinics (URI) + one aquasun (URI). I do have a 50/50 bulb to try out (I got it recently.. thanks DJfrankie!)... we'll see what I end up with.

Rock Rubble

I had some rock rubble that I decided to culture after all. They need washing first then thrown into the bin:

Someone tell the month of June to hurry up and show up already..

I forgot to mention that I did a water change today and the junk water looked pretty good considering what it looked like before. Always a plus. :)

Also just to mention it.. dump bucket mix the saltwater twice and then let it aerate for about a day with that airpump you see in the pics (It has two outputs). Can never overmix saltwater :D

Hey I noticed you purchased the marine depot refractometer, how do you like it? Im deciding whether I wanna buy the marine depot version or the actual captive purity model. How is yours working? Thanks

I like mine just fine. To be honest it's all the same refractometer with a sticker slapped on their of whomever is selling it. :)

I changed the water in the sand bin and added some of the rock bin water to give it some bacteria. It's slightly clearing up, but nothing crazy clear yet.

I've started seriously looking into other reefer's frags local and here and may soon enough start putting in requests to pick up at the appropriate time (When the tank is ready). Very exciting :)

So I emailed Reef Specialty in regards to the Octopus BH-100F skimmer I ordered on April 9th. I was told it left the manufacturer and that they will definitely know by Monday if they will get it in this shipment to them. So if I am to get it, it wouldn't be till next week  Oh well.. hopefully I get it soon!

If not.. I'm using a Lee's Skimmer...LARGE! MUWAHAHAHA! :D

Great thread so far! I just started a 40g breeder tank (Perfecto) and it looks really nice. The back is painted blow and there's an internal overflow and drilled in the back as well. I will hopefully get it all set up sometime this week. I am getting my lights in tomorrow and hopefully getting a sump as well. Someone local has one they don't need anymore.

Anyway, just wanted to say I've really enjoyed reading your thread thus far and I am anxiously awaiting to see the tank finally up & running. Good luck with everything!

Oh, and your pups are cute too! I love the random pics of them. :)

Thanks Sugarfox.. out of curiousity what part of WPB are you from..? I used ti live in Delray Beach and my wife in Boynton Beach.

So I've started pre-buying coral frags from a fellow reefer near me. I am really excited as he has a lot of corals I want in my tank and he made me a great deal. I am also thankful for him as he will hold the corals till the beg. of June... when the tank will be ready to accept them. :)

In this order I will be getting:

- 1 X Green skirt, blue ring, orange center zoos

- 1 X Radio active dragon's eye zoos

- 1 X Purple base color with blue spots mushroom

- 1 X Bright solid orange yumas

- 1 X Pink/purple yumas

- 1 X Purple/blue centers with burgundy fringe zoos

- 1 X Kryptonite zoos

- 1 X Sunburst Zoos (Thrown in for free as part of the package)

I am definitely looking into other reefer's livestock for sale goods and noting down who has what I want to later purchase those coral frags down the road. :D

I still haven't decided what coral will be the "tree" in the 'scaping of the tank... either a frogspawn/hammer or some leather (green sinularia/green-polyped toadstool/Flexiblis leather).

Along with the above, I will keep on looking for nicely colored zoos, rics, and mushrooms. I am on the bench, however, about possibly getting a yellow toadstool for it is a favorite of mine.. but finding a place for it in my tank will be difficult

I am happy to say that thus far my corals at this point are aquacultured!

Nice Corals, Good to find someone willing to hold them for you, its rare to find someone that will do that IME. I think most soft corals you will find are AC because they're so easy to frag. A toadstool coming out of the tank corner might look nice. Or right in the middle of the rock work. Whatever you do im sure it will be great!

Thanks Kar

Yeah I am still debating about where I would put on. I mean a yellow toadstool is classic.. and would almost be a crime not to include. I'll know better when I start stocking the tank :)
