Elegance coral acting strange?

i have a beautiful elegance coral for over a year now and this past couple weeks it has not been looking well. I had a couple of damsels that where picking off the purple tips of its tentacles. I then took them all out and now the elegance is not opening up as much and has some strange green looking growth all the way aroung the base where the tissue starts. What do you think?

I think that a year is a long time to keep an elegance alive these days. Most people can not keep them alive for more than a couple of months.
