Its relatively new to our tank, been there about 2 weeks. In the last 2 weeks it was fully extended with long wavy tentacles flowing over both sides down to the sand, then yesterday for no apparent reason at all it sucked itself in, and has been partially coming out and sucking in repeatedly for about 36hrs now.

any ideas? all conditions are exactly the same.

Im actually having the same issue...mines been in for 2 months...I have been slowly changing my bulbs over to ATI's im shading mine currently to see if thats the issue but Id like to.follow along to see what people think

now for no reason at all its fully out and bigger than it was before... seems healthy. what a mysterious coral!

my baby elegance and the one i had for years did do strange things whn they are acclimating to new lights, current ,and new tank.it takes a couple of months to addapt and understand each new piece of coral.so watch take notes on water reading light and feeding schedual to c if its just a normal thing or somethings wrong.e.c. is also right they do act like this when beeing harrased or stressed .

it was the clowns, and potentially new lights. I put it in another tank and a huge layer of mucous came off it, then it opened up fine. after i moved it the clowns hosted a chalice of all things and covered that in mucous. (i turfed the clowns today, back to the fish store)
