I really like Elegances. Read recently that success rate with keeping them went down in the past few years even though they were concidered eazy to keep species before.
I'm wondering how many people had bed experiance with keeping this beauty.

I have only tried one, and I won't do it again for the simple fact that they have such a poor track record (including mine that went from beautiful and full to completely deteriorated over the course of a couple of weeks). It's one of those corals better left in the ocean for now.

I got a really pretty one from the LFS (PA) and it lasted about 2 weeks. For one I didn't know what I was getting myself into. Felt pretty bad for killing it.

My Elegance coral is over 2 years old .Never had a problem with it .Only thing it keeps growing ,lol

Anyway .It has started my reef tnk 2+years ago .still with me today .Here is few pics

But from what i heard ,Not many ppl have success with them
guess im just one of the lucky ones ,I also have 2 cleaners wrasse and a mandain that are 2yrs with as well

I have only had my tank for a year. I am too scared to even try and care for one. I dont have trouble with my water but too many people have had a hard time.

Mine is going on 1 year. I do keep it in the sand bed, which I feel is one of the keys to keeping them, keep them away from rocks and sharp / rough places which can tear the flesh.

Yes, that where I placed it. It seems like it's doing good so far but I have it for just 3 weeks. Trying to target feed it but it does not seem to be interested. Should I try to feed it at night?

Can everyone give a little detail about there tank setups? Lighting, water turn over, DSB, bare bottom, where the elegance was placed, type of filteration, etc.... I want an elegance, but untill I determine what systems they thrive in and which ones they fail in, I will not try one.

Thanks,
Chris

During the WMC Eric Borneman got to talking about elegance corals and the horrible survival rate this coral has had recently. It seems that a few years ago these corals were basically bulletproof. However recently these corals have been coming in with a next to zero survival rates. From what Eric was able to tell it looks like some kind of disease that is being spread somewhere during the collection/warehouse stages.

note: If you currently have a heathy elegange, and want to keep it that way, don't try adding a second one untill the problem is solved.

I got mine about a month ago. I moved it away from the like blaze told me and it seems to be doing very well. Went from the about a small football size to a basketball...lol

Cool! Glad to here my advice put to use and work!

BTW, Eric has been working on the elegance project for sometime, and his full report is nearing completion.
