Elegance coral show off thread

Absolutely. Put it in the right environment and it will begin to lay down white calcium carbonate. The skeleton will flair out, begin to curl back on itself, and "T" off in other directions.

 Thanks for the info. It's always looked healthy in my tank, but it's good to know that some day I will get some growth too.

Here's a mini elegance coral I got at Bay Mac few weeks back. Vendor told me the diver never seen one this small in twenty years. Dunno if it was a sales tactic. LMK if you seen one smaller. It's about a quarter size.

Got one smaller, here is my micro-elegance. Doing nicely after I inadvertantly fragged him while fragging my elegance into larger pieces last year. Started out as a few tenticles, now a complete circle and mouth. He eats fish flakes and mysis and is now about the size of a nickel.

This picture below should provide some scale, see him on the left side of the tank. Tank is a 5.5g pico-reef and my damsel it very small as damsels go.

Ok so this one is from my parents tank. It measures 8x14x10inches.

Very nice! Yeah u got be beat! LOL. I'm gonna *** the quarter size one. lol. j/p i got a monster one in my140 tank also. He's getting a little too big.

WoW! Beautiful pictures.

I picked up a Pink tip Elegance coral on Friday and I'm not sure if it's not doing well, or maybe my clowns are just annoying the crap out of it. I have it under 2/250w mh which are a little less than the tanks it came from. I have a mixed reef and all other corals are doing well.
Sorry for the crappy pics:

are your elegances "sticky" like most lps? I have to cut my return pump and one koralia off or whatever I feed him will get blown away, its tentacles wont grab mysis and such, but once it settles near his mouth it will close its tentacles around it. Any thought?

OK. It's been a couple of days and my elegance appears to be looking a little better. Any comments/opinions would be nice.

is this an aussie?
I love the look of the full infalted tentacles, my eleagnce tentacles are a bit more stringy, like a torch coral, but not as long.

I ordered what was suppose to be a fragged Australian elegance but they sent me a 'full size' one for the same price. Not that I'm complaining. It arrived yesterday so here are some pictures and a description of the tank that it is in.

For now I have it in my 50gal frag tank under a 250W 14K Phoenix that I've raised up for a while because I was worried about light shocking it. The only non coral/clam inhabitant in the tank is a yellow coris wrasse and a turbo snail to minimize the risk that something would harass it. For flow there are two koralia 1's and about 700gph through the return pump. Only indirect flow is affecting the coral but all of the tentacles are nearly pointed in the same direction so maybe theres too much flow? My frag tank is part of a 270gal system I've been running for 4 years.

I've been researching, waiting and wanting to get an elegance for the last 2 years so hopefully my purchase was educated enough. If I'm successful I plan on fragging it in a years time. I've already fragged many other types of LPS with 100% success with my diamond blade bandsaw and other tools.

I stuck my camera in the tank today in an underwater housing to get a better picture. The elegance isnt where I originally thought I'd locate it, immediately it looked like that spot would be too much flow. So now its in the center back of the tank away from any direct flow and just over 2' directly below my 250W MH. Its been one month so far...

Here's mine. A little bigger than a softball. i was told he's from Indo, but hes been doing very well in my tank so far...(3 months).

I've had 100% success at fragging healthy LPS (the key word is healthy). I've done acanthastrea, duncanopsamia, trachyphyllia, lobophyllia, galaxae, 'wall' euphyllia, oulophyllia, echinophyllia, and favites so far. Start with a healthy coral in a clean tank with good water flow. Make your cut quick and clean then return it to the same conditions from which it came and there really is no risk. However I have not yet had the opportunity to frag an elegance... but you can bet when I do (if I do) I'll post my results plus pictures on this site!
