Ember blenny: super male?

I just lost my Yellow Watchman Goby and I'm looking for a new type of fish and have come across the ember blenny, but I'm just wondering if I were to get a super male ember blenny would he need a female ember blenny to hold his color? or will it hold on to that color for the rest of it's life even without a female?

Thanks.

From what I know super males are just normal males in nuptial coloration and will lose their color without a female around to impress, or after the spawning season.

The Ember blenny was on the top of my bucket list until I found out they will lose that beautiful color that they have. They simply become a chit brown color. For that reason alone I decided to not get one. That and their price has doubled this year over last years prices. It's a shame they lose that beautiful coloration that they have. :(

This was on my list also but I heard they are realy difficult to keep. They are supposed to just slowly fade away not eating . Never kept one though

Completely agree.

They are comparable with starry blennies, in that some eat prepared foods and some don't.

They will also keep their colors without a female if there is another 'perching' blenny and it can be the dominant blenny.

A six foot tank or larger is probably necessary to keep the aggression from being fatal.

Good to know! Thanks.

In another thread someone reported that they often come with intestinal parasites. That may be the reason for the not eating and fading away.
