Emperor Color Change

That's a nice Emperor! I got mine a little over a year ago at about 3/4" and he looks identical to the third picture. He is in a reef tank with mostly SPS, a couple LPS, and a RBTA. I can only hope he turns out as nice as yours is! What have you been feeding him? Are Spectrum pellets included in his diet? Selcon? Anyway, nice fish and keep us posted. :smokin:

I feed mainly Spectrum pellets and Kent Herbevore pellets.
I don't add selcon or garlic.
Then every couple of days I feed Mysis or angel forumla and throw in some algae sheets once every week or 2.

'Obscurity Knocks'- can you post some more photos... and include a few pics of your whole tank? This is an awesome thread.

I've never seen a first-hand chronology of the color-change. I wasn't even convinced it could be fully realized in captivity. Sweet!

Sorry I haven't updated this in a while. I've been busy finishing my basement. Unfortunately I let the tank chemistry get out of wack and have since lost all my corals. So now I've switched to a FOWLR. Which I'm happy with since I've now added a Thalassoma lutescens and a Harlequin Tusk. I'll add a puffer this spring/summer. I had a very small dogface puffer, but he drifted into my tunze stream and got stuck and died. So I'll be getting a larger puffer.

It appears that my Emperor has stopped changing as he doesn't look much different today then the last picture I took back in Oct.

Sorry to learn of your coral losses. I bet you're enjoying your new 'fish freedom' though. How did your emperor tolorate the new additions?

My emperor is pretty docile, for the most part he hangs out in the rocks. But he does grunt at my Regal Angel every once in a while, but he never chases him or any of my other fish around the tank.

I am so excited by this thread! My 3" juvi moved (when he was about 2") from my reef to our 215g. Arthur (don't we all give them names like that?) definitely rules the roost...the tangs mess with everyone but him! I've been going crazy waiting for him to change, and your pics are spurring that along...thanks so much for documenting the change!

i would love to post pics...and to update the pics in my gallery...but my boyfriends #%@$$ cocker spaniel decided my camera cable looked far tastier than any treat...argh...as soon as i remeber to purchase one i'll update

Just to add 2 cents- size doesnt have anything to do with coloration, in comparison to age and/or development and environment. I found this awesome adult emp. who is 4" or less.
