well as most of you know i tore down my 150 gallon.several factors helped me in the decision to do so,one of them being power consumption.so with electrical costs in mind i set out to make an energy friendly sps tank.i initially got quotes from A.G.E. and Miricles in Glass.both quotes were for the same tank and the prices werent too bad,it was the shipping that got me.for me to get the tank from A.G.E. i was looking at $1450 total includung shipping,and Miricles wanted $1388 total.both of the tanks would have been nice but for the size tank i wanted it just wasnt worth it.
so i decided to build my own again.i purchased a sheet of 1" cast acrylic sheet on monday and started building.the tanks dimensions are 32"x32"x16"(30x30x15 ID) or approx 60 gallons and it will have an external overflow.
with power cunsumption in mind i did some looking around at pumps first.i am going to run all Tunze stuff so i figure on running two 6055 nanostreams on an Neptune Aquasurf and a single modded 6025 in the tank.the ruturn pump will also be Tunze 1073.030 http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~idProduct~TZ1711.html
lighting will come from one 250w DE pheonix 14k in a lumenarc reflector,it is possible i might add some form of actinics but im not sure yet.
i have a cone skimmer already that works great so it will be used for this tank.i plan on also running carbon and phosphate reactors.
so i have done some adding up of total watts used and here is the breakdown.
lights=250w
internal pumps=6055 18w
6055 18w
6025 6w
ruturn pump=55w
skimmer=25w
carbon reator=MJ900 8.5W
phos reactor=MJ900 8.5w
TOTAL=389watts
now im probably forgetting something powerwise but nothing that will really add to the overall power consumpion.
so here are the build pics i have so far,i ran out of weld on 40 today so couldnt glue the front panel on yet.
all routed ready to begin the polishing process.
overflow slot all cut
i also laminated a piece of 1/8" black acrylic to the back wall.
here you can see the lamination
