I have around 30 pounds of live rock in my 30 gallon tank. Do i need any more? what is the average tank size to live rock ratio? if i need more, i will get some more today. thanx!

I think that would be enough, because that is a small tank. My thinking is just get enough rock so you can aquascape the rock almost to the top of you tank. But you should not overcrowd your tank with live rock at first. Remember to give space for your corals to grow, plus most corals comes with a small piece of live rock attached. In time, they will take up more space than you think.

All u needed was about 15 pounds. You got double that, your more than fine. Half pound per gallon is all thats necessary for the biological activity to take place properly.

This is a loaded question and you will probably get a different answer from everyone. Generally speaking they say 1 1/2 to 2 pounds per gallon. It depends alot on the rock. Some rock is less porous than others so it is heavier.

what????????

a half pound per gallon of water is all that is needed for bio filtration.

Why do you think so many places "recommend" 1-2 pounds per gallon? Ill give you a hint, it rhymes with honey. :eek1:

For example if you got a 100 gallon tank, 50 pounds is all that is necessary(give or take a few pounds as stated depending on porosity)to properly filter the tank. Now 50 pounds may not be aesthetically pleasing to your eye and you may want more. Thats fine, but not necessary at all. Some people like to look at a wall of rocks, some people dont. Thats called personal taste.

30 pounds is MORE then enough.

The Pounds Per Gallon rule is really a legacy, rock nowadays is more for appearance and structure.

ssungyo, you have posted a million threads, you need to calm down and take things very slowly. This hobby requires lots of time and patience. If you are new to the hobby you have to go through these "growing pains".
