ok so my lfs has a couple of locally bred erectus for sale and I have been thinking about adding a pair to my "display fuge" I guess techincally it isn't a traditional refugium, I cant grow cheato so I have some different types of decorative algae mangrove and some zoas, my concerns are the intense light(150w mh) but about 50% of the fuge is heavily shaded so they wont be forced to live under such intene lighting and the temp, they keep them at 80and I keep my tank at 78 and I can drop it to 77 , they had some tahitian pipe fish for super cheap that seemed to be doing well on chopped mysis and arctipods so I picked up a pair of those and they have been doing great for a few weeks. Am I ready for an erectus? it a 60 gallon but with the dsb and baffles the the actual swimming area is about the size of a 40 gallon.

I would say no.
I'm not sure just how the light would affect them but they definitely don't like high light source, even when there are shaded areas.
Even at 77° it's too hot for best chances of success.
If the pipefish are in that tank already, it's not good to mix species as they often die from parasites brought to the tank by each other.

Im not sure about the light, that would probably be okay, however at 77 its a real risk. The tank should be below 74. What else is in the tank? If the pipefish are already in there, there is a chance that the seahorses would die of disease from them. I'd say overall its not a great idea. If you want seahorses, you should set up a species tank for them. That is where they will do the best.
