Established pair of perculas with a yellow tail damsel

I was wondering if there would be any conflict in adding a yellow tail to my 45g, I have a pair of perculas right now, and I would like to know if the clowns will beat on it or the other way around. Thanks

That's a rough call........I would think it to be the latter, your percs are in for a fight. Do the percs have a host? the damsel will usually acknowledge a host as their territory and stay clear. I would think the damsel will not back down- been there done that. Yellow tailed blue damsels can be some mean MotorScooters, I have seen them stress to death- fish four times their size.twitch:
If you decide to try it, put the damsel in when the lights are out- this will give your pecs the upper hand when your lights come on. TinMan

I purchased a Yellow Tail under the impression that they were less aggressive than other Damsels. He was very territorial, and I'm fairly certain that he killed my Ocellaris and a couple of my Chromis. Several mornings I woke up to dead or injured fish. Needless to say, the Yellow Tail is now in my friend's Puffer tank, and I haven't had any more problems since. If you're looking for a splash of blue, the Blue Reef Chromis has a nice color, without all of the aggression.

was the yellow tail smaller than the perculas? And did it attack once introduced? B/c right now my clowns are free swimmers they havent picked a host or anything yet.

I have a YFB Damsel and two clarkii clowns (Without a host anemone, but a rock has become host). They are in a 30G tank. It was the clowns that bullied the YFBD when it was added. But now they get along very well. No problems to report. But if there are any, it's the damsel that's going out. I love the clowns. And it seems the clowns are a pair.

I see, since you brought up hosting, I was wondering do all clowns host other things beside anemones? Most of the time I only see perculas swimming around in corals but have yet to see a maroon or tomatto hosting something other than anemones. So do all clowns sometimes host a coral if there is no anemone? or is it only for a certain clown breed?

I've never had trouble with yellow-tailed blue damsels. I've kept several in mixed reef aquariums with other fish (always single damsels). I currently have one with a spawning pair of GSMs in a 65 gallon tank, and one with a jewel damsel (now that's a mean fish) in a 40 gallon. No trouble from the yellow-tailed blues.
