ethical way to put a fish to sleep?

my GF's goldfish at work has swim bladder disease and she tried treating it on the pea therapy for 6 weeks now and no improvement. Is there an ethical way for her to put the fish to sleep?

It's not for the weak of stomach, but I heard just chopping the head off with a cleaver is the most humane. Similar to the guillotine concept.

whole foods carries clove oil. just don't get the other alcohol based clove stuff.

bag up the fish in a 5x7" zip-lock bag with tap water...go to your LFS, open the zip-lock baggy and drop it in the Lion Fish tank and walk away. the rest is up to GOD...you did your part. The gold fish will then be judged accordingly.

The freezer method is very controversial, it MAY be very cruel. As Bridgette said, clove oil or MS222 are the best options.

Failing that, a quick chop of the knife will be humane for the fish (but harder on you!)

But before that... has she tried antibiotics yet?

I'd say the freezer is not inhumane: cold slows chemistry, that's all. No worse for them than for us, and I'd sure rather that than being flung at the wall.

she tried searching the net and started a pea therapy... but it hasn't worked at all. I've never seen the fish because it's at her work. What kind of antibiotics should she try?
