I found this retrofit system online for T5 that seems like it would be pretty easy to either mount onto an Eclipse 12 underneath the hood or to mount into the hood itself. The Eclipse 12 is 21" wide, so the 9w 18" kits would be just about perfect.

I'm not planning on SPS or anything too light hungry, but would like some LPS from the euphyllia family. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 13w Compact Fluorescent fixture in the Eclipse is too weak for euphyllia. I've got a 10k/Actinic 50/50 bulb in the fixture right now and it's really not a lot of light.

What would you think about supplementing the CF fixture with these T5 retros? I was thinking that if I got two T5 retros at 10k and switched the CF to an actinic bulb (or kept it 50/50) that might be enough light for what I want to have...or am I horribly mistaken?

Also, if anyone has any ideas that would fit on a the Eclipse 12's goofiness, I'm open to suggestions. I'd like to keep the upgrade cheap though (I know, I know, you get what you pay for...but currently I'm paying for college )

I know this isn't about anemones, but since I'm trying to accommodate a (potential) host for my clowns, I thought maybe you'd let it slide :)

Edit: With a little more searching, I've discovered this fixture that may also work...I wonder why the retrofit kits are only 9w bulbs at 18", while the fixture is 20w bulbs...

Which one would be better?

After a bunch of weeks hosting a PVC elbow you are going to take their home away!?!

:D

In my humble opinion, skip the Eclipse lighting upgrade, provide a new PVC elbow like the current home, save the bucks for the tank when you upgrade in size :>)

True, but the 13w light in a 12 gallon tank, only 1 watt per gallon, which would explain your low light situation. I'd say, if you dont want the trouble, and dont want to spend the money, def. follow traveller7's advice, and skip the corals for now.

Fair enough :) I am not real sure that I want PVC in my display...and it will be years until I can upgrade to a larger tank, but I'm also not so sure that I'm comfortable enough yet to be throwing corals into a 12g.

Perhaps the PVC will find itself a home underneath the rock bridge.
