Euro reef skimmer ???

Correction. Just thought about this post. The psk 1000 does way better than what I said above. It would actually work for an 8-2 well. My mistake. Been awhile since I changed pumps on a skimmer. The psk 1000 actually replaced the 2500 and us a better overall pump. It actually pulls over 1000 gph.

I saw a few things online and the psk 1000 comes on some larger skimmers like the Eshopps and the numbers looked great but numbers and real world experience are 2 different things most of the time.
I did some improvements last night to my mag 9.5 and my gate valve setup to make it work for now until I figure out which route to take.

Be it good or bad these old skimmers are simple in their design. They do not use bubble plates so when choosing a new pump a powerful pump at least for me didn't work. I tried a bubble blaster 5000 on my 12-2 and it didn't work half as good as a pair of Sandra 4000's (I think that's what I used)

I would take two smaller pumps over a single larger pump especially with the 8in did body...... but as you know it gets to the point where we have to decide if it's worth dumping money into it not knowing the outcome. I ended up giving my 12-2 away when I sold my 475g, then purchased a used dart powered needle wheel skimmer for $500

I spent a lot more then that trying to keep my old ER running....

So I'm trying to determine what to do.
Is it worth trying to modify my Euro Reef RS 100?
I don't think my ER RS 100 is working as good as it used to. I didn't realize people were modifying skimmers to make them better. I've read gate valve mod which seems easy to do. I've read about re-circulation mod which I can do too. My Sedra 3500 pump is fairly new but not sure if it will work with mods mentioned or if I'll need to buy additional pumps. Will these mods work and help or am I better off getting new skimmer all together?

I can buy used reef octopus xl 2000 for $200. I'm not sure I want to spend $400+ for skimmer right now. Are Aquamaxx or A cone co-2 skimmers that much better than modifying mine or buying used reef octopus? I don't have a lot of room in my sump for larger skimmer footprints.....not sure the reef octopus will fit.
