Thanks Doc. Do you think I can use a 1 inch gatevalve or will that restrict it too much. The skimmer has 1-1/4 inch. Sure is hard to find them local.

That should be fine. Restricting it will just increase your back pressure. Increasing back pressure is the idea behind the gate valve in the first place.

If you are finding that the water level in the skimmer is too high even with the valve wide open then you will need to lower it on the skimmer a little, that's all.

No Eheims. Just the regular plain jane SP4s. This skimmer is going in a fish room that is already noisy so for me noise is not an issue.

I probably will not upgrade to the eheims unless the feedback is overwhelming. I do, however, plan to upgrade the impellers when the new ones come out.

Thats cool. The SP4's are great pumps IME. You'll be very happy w/ their performance.

Cheers

Jim

What kind of sound do you guys get from the EuroReef skimmers? I'm thinking of getting an CS250, but noise is a problem. This will be submerged in a sump. Also, what modifications are worth the investment? I'm somewhat decided to get the gate valve, but is there a decent recirculating mod available? I would get a recirculating skimmer, but i do not have the space to fit it in my sump, and running external is not an option (the tank is in the living area, and everything must fit inside the stand). Thanks!

i have the cs250 with the gate valve and the pump it's the sp5
(genx6000) . it's in my sump at the living room and if you want to know about the sound it's the noisy part that i have in all my tank system. i am run in my tank : 3 seio m2600 , 1 vortec pump , mag12 return pump ,maxiget 1200 , maxiget 400 , one more ph 450gph ,you not going to believe but the sp5 make more noise then all those pump work together , when tv and radio work you don't hear it to much but if you shut down the t.v and the radio you hear a little "generator" in your living room at the begin i didn't complain about that ........ my wife start to ask if i open work shop in the living room:)
with the gate valve it's more easy to adjust the water level and if you ask , it's worth the money but because the space it's take i take of 2 baffle out from the sump.

michael

Man ,Reef Central is steadily on the downward spiral....very sad...

second that. thank god for my local reef club

Bashing.Banning. This is an opinion forum, OH shucks am I posting in the proper forum? The hall monitors in this school all want to be the principal. Come on people don't over do/complicate a simple fish tank collabrative of intelligence and resources just because of "EGO's".

I think all banning should be banned. Remember sticks and stones can break my bones, and internet forums can't harm me......

Well, I must say I agree Reefologist. Things said on this forum cannot really harm anyone.

But I didn't start this forum, nor do I run it. I just post here :)

This is quite a bummer though. I just hope this doesn't cause ER to pull off this forum entierly. That would truley be sad.

I do have a feeling, however, that "other" sponsors may have complained, which would be pretty childish if that was the case. I don't know if it is the case, but ER has been posting in this thread for years. So for there to be an "all of a sudden" type of problem, it just seems too coincidental.

Maybe those new eheims got under someone's skin :p J/K

Lets hope the mods have a change of heart!

Its here!

Definitely a nice piece of equipment. I am very happy so far.

I just got it running so I thought that I would snap a picture of it:D

Here you go Jim and as a bonus for your patience I have included in the pic a shot of my ER 8-2.

Okay guys, couldn't get the Marine depot guy to hook me up with the cs-100 for the price of the cs-80, which they have discontinued, so i have taken my business else where, namely, premium aquatics, b/c the skimmer is the same price and in-stock. question is, how good is the "SP2- Euro-Reef modified SEDRA KSP-3500A water pump " and is this the standard issue pump? i see all this talk about sp-4's and eheims and i just want to get the best the first time around, any negatives to the sp-2? all help is greatly appreciated.

Doc......

WOW... that thing is a beast!!!! Happy skimming!

Omaha, I think that anything larger than the sp2 on the CS80 may be too powerful. The skimmer bodies and pumps seem to matched pretty good compared to the competitions numbers. You should be golden.
