I am having some issues with my RS6-1. I have had the thing running for two months now and have no skimmate. It is in a pretty well stocked 75 with over 100 lbs of live rock. It just won't produce. I have the thing set with the riser up to where the water line is about 3/4 inside the skimmer cup. I should be wet skimming with this setting, but I don't get anything. SG is not the issue. I have an ES5-3 that skims like crazy and I love it, but this 6-1 is getting ridiculous. I am thinking that I could have saved almost 4 bills and tossed another big rock in their and gotten the same result. Anybody have any suggestions?

OK 24 hours & still no skimmate. The return pipe has tuns of air bubbles comming out back into the sump almost like its fizzing >
NORMAL ??

Just wanted to see how many people are running a CS 8-1 on their systems. I am thinking of picking one up from my new 75g reef (about 110g total).

I don't see to many people using this skimmer so I was hoping to get some feedback on it. Thanks in advance.

That is whack. Two mos no skimmate? Is the ES5-3 on the same system right now? Are the bubbles on the 6-1 similar in size as the 5-3? Anything else about the bubbles between the two that seem different?

Unless I thought the problem was something else, I'd probably raise the bubble line up farther until I started getting something.

BTW, I grew up in Huntsville. I'm in Atlanta now:cool: Check out www.saltwateru.com (an upcoming conference sponsored by the Atlanta Reef Club) if you haven't already.

Have you guysthat are having problems checked to see if the needlewheel impellers are spinning correctly??? IMO, the skimmerbody is aneasy design, but the needlewheel pumps are truly the heart of it all.

Hi everyone! I might be a member of the club soon. Was considering an ASM but am now interested in the new Euroreef RS series. I can get a RS 8-2 for $425. But I can't seem to find much info on the RS series.

Specifically I need to know what the dimensions of the RS 8-2 are and what the foot print dimensions are.

Thanks in advance.

RS... All cast acrylic and welded w/ solvent. No custom configs.

CS (Custom Series)... PVC welded to cast acrylic w/ PVC welder. One difference is the use of the PVC and the extra PVC weld. Plus the fact that you can get the CS in recirculating and other custom configurations.

Peace,
John H.

Thanks. Any reason I wouldn't want to go for an RS 8-2 for a 125 gallon tank? I was going to go for an ASM until I found the RS 8-2 for $425. That's only about $50 more than an ASM G4.

Well... you could get this guy for about 20 bucks more...

It uses 1/4" acrylic for the main body vs. 1/8" acrylic that ER uses. It's just a matter of preference I think. I don't remember if the new ER RS series uses the new twist locks on the RS series or whether they still use the Unions. If they still use the unions on the RS series, I'd just get the Geo, but if they use the new twist locks, I'd go w/ the ER. I've found that the larger unions (those used on 4" tubing) are a pain in the *** to use because of their size.

Peace,
John H.

Hi all,
I'm getting ready for my first Euro Reef Skimmer CS12-2-RC with drain mod. Excited, yes I am. Any suggestions from the experienced gods of Euro reef skimmer users?

Thanks Ahead.........
Daniel

The 5-3 is on a different system. The bubble size with the 6-1 seems about the same. What I do notice is that there is a lot of wasted reaction chamber space. There are only bubbles in the upper 50%. I am running as high as I can without flooding the cup. I am at a loss... :(

Have you checked the airtube at the venturi to make sure there is not a small piece of plastic in there or any other obstruction?

I will check the venturi when I get off work. I checked it when I first got it, but that doesn't mean that a piece of flash hasn't turned loose from somewhere and restrict the airflow.

As far as going to a larger pump or changing it to a DIY recirc, there is no way I would do that. It's a great idea, but after spending $400 on a new skimmer, it should work without me having to re-engineer the thing. I will return this thing and buy another skimmer first. I do appreciate the idea, though!

how much air chamber space bubble free did you expect - I know lots of skimmers have even less and work fine and expected - you don't want too many bubbles going out the outflow

I wish I had a pic of my CS 6-1 making bubbles before I recnetly retired it but my new H&S has lots of space with not much bubbles and it is correct for mine. However I pulled the pic below from an earlier reply - page 7 I think
