You are correct. I have the ES5-2 an its 1 1/4".

5-2's are 1 1/4"

BUT if you have a 1" laying around or want to save some space just get a 1 1/4" insert bushing that reduces to 1" then 1" out from there

Lunchbucket isn't kidding. That gate valve contraption takes up a ton of space in the sump.

just buy a plastic bucket at K-mart for $10 and you wont have to worry fiddling with the skimmer

I used 1" on mine just because that's what I haad lying around, but trust me, it makes all the difference in the world in adjusting the skimmer. You can really fine tune the foam level.

i like the 1" gate valve MUCH BETTER. i ran my ES5-2 w/ a 1 1/4" and my 6-2+ (knock off) w/ a 1"....i like the 1" better...more room and less bulk

The only thing not clear is where Im suppose to put the bucket. I wish I had a dedicated plumbing and sump room like a lot of people..but all I have is the inside of my stand. In the sump it goes.

I don't think you will be disappointed! Here is mine after 2 1/2 days. One thing to note, I had to cut down my output tubes. 1 1/2" off the main and 1" off the slider (evened them up) Or do the gate valve mod Now is skims like mad!

how lng did it take for yals euro to break in. i have a rs 6-3 but no 125 gallon to hook it up to yet still waiting for that stand and canopy to come in.
