No man, I am taking a break from ER. I told you I am getting that used DAS monster. Had both CS6-1 and CS6-2+ and I wasn't that impressed with them. Wet skimming was Ok but I never managed to get any nasty stuff like the AP600 did for my bioload (little).

Felix, are you gonna sell this one 2 months after it comes, then come back and buy another ER? LOL, it's okay if you do.

When doing the gate valve mod, do you have to glue the parts together or can you just leave them pressed fit? Also, why is the open pipe so tall in some of the pictures? Does it need to be that tall?

Deltec manufactures the skimmers in germany. Doug...who has superb customer service ,all hours of the day, is doing the work for them? Yes he is, he is a rep.. What is the big deal. You will be hard pressed to find very many products where the owner of the product has a discussion forum. ER is using trained represenatives,what is the big deal? Good day, your friend, reefologist...

The big deal is when ER doesnt reply to their reps in a timely manner. The reps arent getting support from ER either. When the rep cant get a reply as far a when a replacement collection cup will be sent to replace the broken one that was received, THAT IS A PROBLEM. If ER gave its reps the resources to handle such problems, then that would be an acceptable form of service. But as it stands right now, the rep is nothing more that a middle man consumer that doesnt get any support either. Again, if you are happy with this type of support, than I am happy for you. As a consumer, I am not and took my business elsewhere. Believe me, if more consumers did the same ER would get their customer service upto par in a hurry. As you can see, they already opened back up their forums. Coincidence, I think not! lol No business should ever feel that they are too good or too busy to deal with their customers. Maybe they should ask themselves who is really paying the bills.

BTW, protein skimmers are not cars! although some seem to cost as much.

Take care

PS.. I will now get off my soap box so this forum can return to the ER faithful, which I was until I had to deal with them. My whole point of posting was to encourage people to do their homework on the companies that they buy from. Know how long your system will be down if you have a problem that needs replacement parts. It's good advice from any angle.

No, the pieces don't have to be glued. I have all of mine just press fit together. I don't know why some of the pipes are taller than others, so I can't help you there.

So, how exactly do you know what has been going on behind the scenes between ER, PA and MD? Just curious.

From my numerous dealings with both the rep and the Manufacturer. There was no reply from ER to the rep after a week of inquires. Thats when I decided to contact ER myself. As i said before, no support from ER to rep or consumer.

I haven't ever counted them, but I know a few of my needles are shorter than the others.
dmichellep,
Who knows ER may have trained the reps at PA and MD? All of this seems to be a recent occurence, so why don't we give them the benefit of the doubt and give them the opportunity to provr themselves before bashing? JMO

i would be a member of the skimmer fetish club also. i just want to get ONE of every kind and try them all out...just for FUN...sick i know

crab - i agree lets see what happens w/ the new system before we go bashing.

Well I just went ahead and ordered the 5-2 from PA which means it will be at my door tomorrow. Now to finish work on the tank and sump. I'm going to try and use the long weekend to get this all together.

I have a question regarding the Euroreef Skimmer. I have the CS8-1 that a just put in service about one week ago. I am wondering how long should it take to start producing?

I added 125 pounds of live rock with some corals, crabs, snails from a tank that had been setup for 2 years into my 75 gallon a couple of days ago and the foam is still white and it also only comes up to about the union in the neck. I keep trying to raise the pipe and the foam comes up higher, but always keeps going back to the same point after awhile.

What do you guys think?

I received my cs5-2 on friday from PA. Much bigger than what I thought it would be, can't imagine the size of the bigger ones you guys are getting. Completed the gate valve mod yesterday. Let me know if something looks wrong.

The bottom of the pump looks to have notches for suctions. Does the kimmer come with suctions for the bottom of pump?

Pipes are just pressed in for now. I ran it in the bathtub to see if it would leak not glued and it was fine. I also converted from 1 1/4" to 1".

Looks good! Now get that thing in the sump and watch it suck scum! :D
FYI, mine took about a week to 10 days to start doing anything noticable... Now it is dark sludge. (Same skimmer as yours)

Euro-Reef Support

Here' s a quote that those of you that have read the complaint above should bring to bear. This is a reply to dmichellep directly addressing his supposed claim:

~~~
dmichellep,
I am sorry to hear you are unhappy with the support you have received with your purchase of a EuroReef skimmer so far. I can assure you that EuroReef, Marine Depot, and Premium Aquatics have come up with a solution to the previous concerns of customer's who are EuroReef owners that need a forum dedicated to their high end protein skimmer and support after the sale.
dmichellep quote:Its funny that when I dealt with Premium Aquatics they say it takes forever to get any response from ER. I guess they dont get any support from ER, either.
I am unsure who told you this from our staff, but I can guarantee that is not verbatem from Premium Aquatics. I will most admittedly say that in while some instances we are not able to provide immediate information which involves us contacting the manufacturer, it by no means "takes forever".
When a rep from Premium Aquatics asks to call you back with information that we need to investigate our goal is to this immediately, and within an hours time. With a lot of manufacturer's they are busy in their actual shop producing the product, and can not accept phone calls at any time, nor can they completely drop what they are doing to answer every retailer's questions every time. This in turn can delay our turn around time to you.
If you have any questions or problems on your EuroReef skimmer feel free to email me directly at jeremy@premiumaquatics.com at any time and I will be more than happy to assist you.
Thanks,
Jeremy
Folks, if you put your trust in the sound a of skweaky wheel, you better be sure it's not about to break. Oil won't fix it-
Just hooked up my new Euro Reef RS5-3, which is sitting in my new 20G DIY sump (AGA 20G high with 3 baffles) and also new 100 micron filter sock.
My question is because everything is all new, how long before my collection cup stops filling up with clear water?
For starters, where should the adjustment riser tube be?
Currently the two tubes are mismatched by about an inch, should I go higher?
Also, I was wondering if the micro bubbles that the skimmer is giving off now will reduce, or increase or stay the same after break in?
Thanks
Sounds like mine. It should take about a week to settle down, but I ended up cutting off about 1" from the shorter tube and 1.5" off the longer one (To make them equil). It works great now that I did that, I was getting the same, my cup filled up in minuts. The adjustment tube should be all the way down for dryer skimmate.
Walter
So did you modify it right away? Or did you wait a week? Ya mine cup fills up within minutes.
I think I might just let it overflow for now....It's just clear water.
Besides I still have my remora pro running, which is fed from my sump by a quiet one 4000.
$250 and I have to start cutting it up??!!.....figures.
