got a quick question. I was looking at the blems on H2O tropicals specifically the ES5-2 or 5-24. I will have a 45g with 20g sump would eigther one work or is there some thing else that would work better. Anyone have experience with the blems sense they only have a 30 day warranty on the skimmer body I am a little worried.

The blems are great. I purchases my 8-2 last year from them. I couldn't tell where the blem was at first, but after careful examination it was nothing more than the epoxy seal was a little smudged at the bottom.

The 5-2 will work fine for your tank.

they will work fine

the ES5-2 is 20" tall i belive and the 5-24 is 24" tall. i believe that is the difference

so the new RS, CS, or RC 80 is 22" tall....it is similar to the old style of skimmers but they have improved them a little i believe. i'll have to see what my RC80 does :D!!

That is great to hear as I have looking for a skimmer for this march when I finally get every thing setup. The good thing is my stand has a lot of room on the inside I could fit a 25"X14.5"X20" sump in there is I had too. lol What I will be building is 24"X14"X16" with 12" baffles. 9"X14"X12" skimmer 6"X14"X12 return area with a 7"X14"X12" fuge. I was going to use a 1" bulkhead for the sump input with a tee and ball valve that goes to fuge and the skimmer area. Should work at least it does in my head lol

My new CS250 arrived today, so I'm back in the club! (former CS6-1 owner)

Other than a small problem with the pump matching up to the skimmer body (detailed in this thread in the Euro Reef forum, this thing is a work of art!

I'll post some more pics once the skimmer is up and running, but here's one of it right out of the box (that Gen-X 6000 pump is huge!):

Very nice skimmer good luck with it.
I guess they made a BO BO with the hole  .
Did you try the Bayonet fitting for the cup removal is it still hard to get off?

what is a bayonet fitting? the cups on mine are always a pain to get loose.
Bayonet fitting is the part that connects the cup to the skimmer body you turn it and it separates the two parts so you can clean the cup . It was very hard to remove always i just asked to see if ER fix the problem.

It's a small boo boo and being taken care of, but was disappointing to discover nonetheless.

This is the first ER skimmer with Bayonet that I've had, so I can't comment on how it's removal compares to the fittings that were causing problems earlier this year. But the collection cup does come off without any commotion, contrasted to the collection cup on the DAS BX-2 (same basic design) that I'm currently running.

Help,
I have an ES5. My pump just blew. This has been an awsome machine since I got it almost 1 year ago. The pump just stopped. Anyone else have this problem. I have cleaned it thoroughly in the past. It is the Sedra Powerhead model KSP-3500 pump that came with the unit. Thanks Tim

Take the pump out and dismantle it. be sure to separate the ceramic shaft from the impeller and soak the parts in vinegar for 24 hr.

Out with the old (DAS BX-2):

In with the new (ER CS250):

I discovered that eggcrate layed flat under the skimmer is the perfect height to match the pump, so I decided to get it running this evening. The DAS was nice (the skimmate in the pic above was collected in 4 days), but was getting up there in its age and wasn't very easy to maintain. The ER impresses me already by the amount of air that the pump draws.

I already had taken the pump apart and tried plugging it in and it does nothing....no noise or anything. I tried calling marine depot where I bought it to get a new pump but they are closed now. What kind of warranty is there?

Is the ceramic shaft spins easy around the impeller magnet?

Well I have had my CS5-24 for about a month and it has been great! I get a nice amount of green goo every 2-4 days. Man does it make the bubbles! Beats my old Berlin Classic hands down for sure.
