hmm...mine is hard to turn...guess i should lube it up w/ some silicone grease for o-rings??

wondery why mine is so hard to turn?

You can loosing some of the top and bottom part of the valve assembly that will make the valve easy to turn.

Lunch,

The handle of the valve is a tool to loosen the ball so it turns easier. Silicone lube will make it super easy to turn.

for those of you clueless about what is being talked about..which i was clueless too. here are pics

this is the ballvalve w/ the unions removed. see those squares on the ballvalve guts? take the handle off and put it in the holes. turn counter clockwise to loosen it a little and loosen the turning strength!! VERY COOL! and takes up WAY less room than a gatevalve

CS-250 update time!!!

My CS-250 has been up and running and skimming strong for 5 days now, so I though I'd let you all know how things are going.

I am very satisfied with the performance of this skimmer and I happy that I took the gamble to come back to the ER club! Like Jeremy stated in the RC-1000 thread in the PA forum, I don't think I've ever seen skimmate this dark before. Plus, my entire room reeks of rotten sea gunk...so I think I'm going to have to come up with a carbon-filtration rig or something to help manage the stench.

I've always performed weekly 10% water changes on this tank and have adequately skimmed from day 1, making it almost surprising that I've pulled as much nasty skimmate as what has been collected.

Other than the manufacturing glitch that I wrote about earlier, the build of this skimmer seems very solid, and the new & improved SP5 pump seems well matched to the 8"x30" body. The air intake valve is a nice feature and choking it off very slightly is (I believe) a big reason why I've been able to pull such nasty skimmate.

These pics were taken this evening (after 5 days worth of skimming). I didn't get much skimmate the first day or two while I was getting the water level set, but now, this beast is pulling vile gunk out at a very quick and consistent rate.

YUCK!!! home mine starts pulling hard. i need to not clean my cup and need to quit messing w/ mine :D oh and i should prolly lower the water a touch but i'm gonna wait a few days

anyones skimmer die after feeding some foods? mine does due to the oils breaking surface tension i know...but how long before yours starts skimming again??

Lunchbucket

Rob, glad to see that badboy in its full glory.

Lunch, mine only dies when I add selcon, flake food and salmon. It comes back on line about ten minutes later. Longer with the selcon though. Honestly, I don't use the selcon or any other of these foods (besides salmon for my grouper) very often because of this.

I notice some skimmer take a long time to come back to normal after feeding oily foods .
My old Etss was one of them almost five hours to get back to normal.

i'm not sure how long mine will come back on...i just fed so w will see. i only fed forzen mysis and brine. i wonder why it kills it so bad. wonder if i should go back to my homemade mush since that didn't "kill my skimmer" at all.

what do you guys feed that doesn't cause it to die off

could it just need to break in and after that it won't die off??

Lunchbucket

I feed krill and mysis with selcon every day and my CS8-2 shuts down for about 90 minutes afterwords.
