Just leave the piece of PVC that the riser tube fits into and put the gate valve on that then your tee. I tried it with the valve higher and it did not seem to work as well.

Thanks Steve, I found the CS-250 but was hoping for pics of the recirculating version (RC-250). Also, the RC-750... I wish Euro-reef had these pics up on their website...

Any one have any pictures from the ER RC500 Running??

This is my ~RC500. I bought it as a CS12-2 RC fitted with the beta pumps, but it is essentially what is now sold as the RC500.

Tested at ER before shipping:

How wet do you want to skim?

I've been very pleased with this skimmer.

RC 500 Skimmer Cup

RC 500 Skimmer Cup

Is it me, or does the skimmer cup on the RC 500 look too shallow? If you compare this diameter and style skimmer to similar H&S or Deltec skimmers, their cups look deeper (and better IMO). Here is a doctored photo comparing the actual skimmer cup of the RC500 to what it could look like, if it were 1.5 - 2 inches deeper. This would also allow it to hold more gunk:

I agree I have a cs12-2rc and when the cup is full, it is heavy and by that time the neck is covered in goo to the extreme, time for cleaning

The cup is pretty cumbersome (and heavy) when it's completely filled. I hate to think what it would be like if you added another gallon of capacity. I typically dump mine before it gets 3/4 full, just because it's so much easier to handle.

Ever let it go too long? Then you carefully remove the cup and as you are gingerly walking it to the sink, it starts to sway and all the crap pours out the riser neck as it's shorter than the cup wall?
Yeah, me too. :)

Been there, done that. Now I use a 10g rubbermaid to carry the cup (it just barely fits). If the cup comes off the skimmer, it gets set right in the bin. Now I don't have to worry about drips or spills while carrying it.

IMO, it promotes laziness. By the time the cup fills, there's a ton of crud built up at the top of the neck. I need to remove the cup to clean it anyway.

Okay, so its just me... in the meantime I got the following response from a Euro-reef dealer: "The cup is actually deeper now (since that photo). It used to be 4", now it is 5". It is a better aesthetic balance and holds more junk."

Yep. I'm lazy.

I also like the redundancy of having a large waste container that redirects into the sump if something goes crazy wrong and the skimmer blows like a geyser.

I actually like cleaning the skimmer though. Sick, aren't we?

jnfallon - if something goes wrong i believe mine shuts down when the skimmate reaches the top where the skimmate deflector is.
