Yes, I would call if I were you. Things like that I don't buy online. Make sure it is the adjustable flowmeter.

I guess you can't search those threads anymore (shame), but I got there through an old thread I had subscribed to and still had a notification email for. The posted link should take you to the now defunct forum.

could someone tell me the difference between the CS and RS models, besides one is sold via internet and one at LFS's.

ES they don't make anymore. They were made from extruded acrylic like the ASM models. The RS is the Retail Store version of the CS which stands for Computer Store. The CS use higher quality bonding I believe. But both offer identical preformance as far as I know.

higher quality bonding...how so???

Also could someone tell me what to expect for an RS 8-1 as far as price goes??? thanks

Actually CS stands for "custom skimmer" and the ASM uses extruded clear PVC not acrylic, but I do agree on performance. It's the pump and dimesions of the skimmer that it good not the materials used.

Drock have you raised the skimmer up yet? If so did it make a difference?

No difference whatsoever. Im through with ASM and am getting a good deal on an RS 8-1.... or at least i think. What would everyone think about said skimmer that is 2 months old for 365 shipped??? fair or not?

As long as it's in good shape I would say that's a good deal considering they're $429.00 new and another $20 to $30 for shipping. I'm not so sure I would give up on that ASM so soon though. Have you tried every trick you can think of?:) If you decide to go with the Euroreef, well, welcome the dark side:strooper: :strooper: :strooper:

I want to join. I've had an ES5-3 since January. Has anyone seen worse performance after drilling out the air intake? After drilling mine, the bubble size doesn't seem to be as fine. I had to raise the riser tube about an inch higher to get the same amount of wet skimmate it produced before.

I'm not blaming anyone? This was a very common mod that Jeff recommended in the closed ER forum. He said it increased performance. Anyway....Has anyone experienced decreased performance?

This is what my LFS told me. If I'm wrong, my bad. Jim

The way I understand it is the more air you are bringing in the less water is pumped, so you may have gone too big and are not flowing enough water. You could put an airline valve on it so you can control the amount of air injected and therefore have more control over the skimmer. All of this is just theory as I have not drilled either of my skimmers out.

crab0000,
Thanks. I'll try an air valve. I drilled it out 3/16 as suggested by Jeff. Don't get me wrong, the skimmer is still doing a great job. I just didn't expect an observed increase in bubble size. This is subjective of course.

I am upgrading to a 120 and thought I wanted a larger skimmer so I have a CS 6-1 with gate mod from H2o, additional skimmer cup, extra sedra 3500 for sale
