worst thing to cause micro-bubbles in my systems is the use of any freeze dried food, it doesn't cause a change in foam production to any significant degree but does cause micro-bubbles for several hours out of the skimmers.

I was thinking something along the lines of water conditioner. That'll cause micro-bubbles as well as extra foam.

Tanks guys, what I'm trying to find out is; I replaced my Sedra 3500 for the 5000 but on my CS6-2 the inlet is lower than the CS6-2+ that comes with the Sedra 5000 in order to fit the 3500 pump, now the 5000 is more powerful and is creating more bubbles at the lower part near the outlet, I hope I explained myself.
Thanks.

Well, i just bought a Euroreef today, the CS6-1 with the gatevalve mod and the first thing i want to sahy is holy big gatevalve batman!!!! that thing is huge!
I do have a question... i have seen 2 CS6-1's running now and both produce a lot of microbubbles.one did not have the gatevalve and now obviously mine. my skimmer is used so there isnt to much break in to do but is this normal? or is there some Euro-trick out there i am not doing to cease the bubbles?

any help would be fantastic

Gate valve mod. ???

Gate valve mod. ???

Hello everyone,

A friend is going to give me an ES 5-2 for taking care of his tank while he's away. I was going to buy an ASM G-2, but I figure if I can get a Euro Reef for free, I'll take it. I will be using it on my 65gal tank. I hope it will do the job for a tank full of mostly zoos and some LPS. Any input would be appreciated.

My biggest ? is with the gate valve mod. though. I was hoping I could get some help from someone who has done the mod on an ES-5-2. Should I be using 1 1/4'' PVC for this mod. ? Maybe someone can show me the pipe configuration on an ES 5-2.

Thanks

Giz - congrats on the ER..you'll love it

the 5-2 is 1 1/4" pvc. there are quite a few pics out there on the configuration quite a few pages back. you do some searching and i'll search to

I am not oo worried about the bubbles, i incorerated a couple of bubble traps in my sump design, i was just wondering.

Tommorrow i will post a couple of pics

I am have a new ER5-2 on the way and read on the last posts
about a gatevalve mod.
What is and purpose of this gatevalve mod?
And if you say it better why not make it that way from the factory.

The purpose of the gate valve mod - It allows for an easier more fine adjustment of the skimmate (wet or dry). I modified mine before I began using it after reading about how much of a pain the riser tube adjustment was.

Why is it not done like that from the factory? No idea...I ask the same question.

ASM where I got my gate valve. They are just up the road from me. There kit is $37. I got my valve for $18 and got a 5' piece of PVC for $2... so $20 total.

Just like Fishtk75 I'm also getting ready to do the gate valve mod. on my ES 5-2 and was trying to find out how everyone is putting thiers together. Slip fit or glued? Do you just slide the 1 1/4'' pipe over the old riser tube or do you have to cut it or something? Please help!

Mine isn't glued at all..just a slip fit. Make sure that the cross of the Tee is as far under the neck of the main body as possible. You might have to do some extra cutting for this.

Sorry for not answering earlier...I just bought my parts myself. All but the gate valve came from USplastics.com and the gate valve came from Mcmaster-carr.com. But I wanted gray PVC. If you want white, you can get it all from usplastics.

I have my CS5-2 today and running I am happy that it pulling bad stuff out but but not happy the pump is louder then my cheap air pump.
Is there a brake in time for the pump that it will quiet down and not vibrate the sump so much?

Giz, Codeman00, rklutt and everyone
How loud is yours running?
