I've always wanted to admit. I joined the club 2 years ago with my ES5-3. I love that thing.

I'm very frustrated with my CS6-2. Maybe they've since modified the design, but I can't get that skimmate cup off the body! It has a twist-lock, but I can't even imagine needing to lock it in place. I see pictures of others that look different, so maybe they ditched the poor design that I have.

I diligently lubricate the o-ring each time I remove the cup. If I didn't, I wouldn't be able to remove this thing at all!

You can't lift the cup straight off because it will lift the entire skimmer (full of water, with pump attached) right out of the sump before it comes off. That means you have to hold the body of the skimmer down while lifting the cup upward. The cup itself (being 6" diametre) is too large for me to wrap my hand around.

Yes...the thing skims great....but I have to maintain the thing also. Better thought should have gone into that.

Thanks for the opporunity to vent!

I don't think so. I have a RS5-3 which is 4" taller, in 11" of water and I have to keep the riser tube pretty close to bottom. You would be skimming very wet and probably overflowing the cup.

I was just curious. Can a 5-2 be in 12" of water with the gate valve mod? It also has the recirc. mod.
Thanks

untamed12 - how far do you tighted the twist lock?? should barely even turn it...you don't have to crank on it. just a thought you might not even do that

Why would the water level make a difference if it has the recirc and gate valve mod? You can run it out of sump if you want to.

Oops, you are correct... didn't see the recirc part. Water level makes no difference when you have recirc mod.

Sorry if I grossed anyone out. :) I just really do love my skimmer. I used to skim real thick, but now I am going to try to skim wet. Hopefully, the taste will improve with this method!

To All Reef Central Members,

We would like to take a moment to address concerns regarding the removal of our forum from Reef Central, but first, we would like to thank Reef Central for their support over the past few years in allowing us to host the Euro-Reef Forum. We truly believe that Reef Central is an incredible asset to the hobby where ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œÃƒÂ¢Ã¢"šÂ¬Ã‚¦quality information about the marine and reef aquarium hobby can be exchanged among all levels of hobbyist from beginner to advanced.ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ This kind of exchange is one of the keys to the future success of the marine aquarium hobby and we support that 100%!

Making it easier for you:

As our business has grown, the demand for customer support has increased proportionally and in response to this increase we are making some new additions to our support department:

1. We now have a full time Hobbyist Product Support Specialist available Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Pacific Standard Time. The current phone # is 949-770-9913 ext 12. You can also send us an e-mail at er.tech@euro-reef.com for general product questions or at er.warranty@euro-reef.com for product warranty related inquiries.
2. We are in the process of establishing a toll-free phone number that any registered owner of a Euro-Reef product can use to contact us regarding questions or concerns they may have about their product. This number will be posted on our websitesââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ HOME PAGE the first week of April, 2006.
3. In addition to the toll-free number, we are also setting up a direct line for those that may have questions about Euro-Reef products they are interested in purchasing. This phone number will also be posted the first week of April, 2006.
4. We are developing a Euro-Reef direct e-commerce site so you can order parts and accessories directly from us. This makes getting ANY PART YOU NEED quick and painless! We will announce the opening of this service on our website as soon as it is available. In the meantime, please visit our website and use the "Dealer Locator" link on our home page to find a dealer near you where you can order parts and accessories as needed.

Regarding our decision to discontinue hosting the Euro-Reef forum here in Reef Central:

It was never our intention that the Euro-Reef forum be a medium for our company to provide product/technical support. We were inspired by the exchange that had been taking place in the well known ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œEuro-Reef Clubââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ thread and therefore sought to establish an official gathering place for Euro-Reef users to exchange helpful tips and insights with each other regarding the use of our products. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that our decision initially may cause. We believe that a direct line of communication is the best way to support our customers. 

Thanks to the hobbyists that make Reef Central a great place:

We would also like to extend a special thank you to those hobbyists who had participated in our forum in support of Euro-Reef products and for sharing their knowledge and experience with others. Without your passion for the hobby, we would not be able to experience the joy of doing what we do here at Euro-Reef.

Again, we want to thank Reef Central and all its members for the opportunity to be associated with your community, and we look forward to continuing that association for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Jeff Macaré

I'm joining the club! I have problems with my new CS5-20. I put a baffle in my sump to accomodate the Euro-Reef recommended 6.5" water level. The first time I turned it on, all was well. I sat there in awe to see how much bubbles this thing made in the skimmer. As I sat there, I noticed that the bubble column was just getting higher and higher until it started to overflow the collection cup. I thought, maybe because it's still new and there's a bunch of crap in the water. 1 week later of just letting it run... It's still doing the same thing. So I thought, I better raise it. So far i've raised it 3.5" which is almost to the point of where the pump itself is. It looked like it did the trick since I watched it for 3 hours to make sure the bubble level didn't overflow the collection cup. I thought, good! That did the trick! When I wake up in the morning, the collection cup is full again w/ not skimate but water! I can't raise it any higher because my cabinet won't let me. Does this fix itself over time? If so, how long?

Hybrid -- do you have the gate valve modification on the thing? I personally think it should be standard equipment -- setting your bubble level correctly is waaaaaaaay easier with the gate valve. Let's start there. :)

6.5" water level? That's what the recommend? My water level in my sump will be 11". So am I going to have to make a stand? Also, how much more room does the gate valve mod take up? Thanks

It doesn't take up any more room than the standard footprint on my CS-180. There are DIY threads with the parts list -- it's really, really an easy set of pipes to connect. I didn't know how easy I just bought the kit from MD and fired it up.

The recommended water height for mine is 8".

IMO this is the best piece of machinery in my system I really like it.

by the way... can I get a parts list for the gate valve mod...including what size pipe to use, joints, etc... I'm going to go to a hardware store later today but forgot to get dimensions of the output pipe on my CS5-20.
