Hello all Euro-reef experts, I have a euro-reef cs-8-3 and every so often it starts to develope micro bubbles in the sump, I thought that it was the sponges first and usually will just clean the whole riser tube assembly, but today I did that and it continued to produced the bubbles, It is hard to tell if the bubbles are coming out of the pump it self or the pump/body junction or the riser pipe.
Has anyone experience this? did you figured out what it was? any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Rogger Castells

thefuture - 150 should be an ok price as long as the pump is in good shape.

you can do a gatevalve mod and that is all that is needed IMO

Rogger - does it seem like the water is flowing out WAY faster than normal? i used to get a lot of micro bubbles if my air inlet would get clogged. then it would suck less air and push more water and i would get micro bubbles. check the air nipple on the venturi

Thank you lunchbucket, I will do this now. also were can I get more info about the riser pipe modification, I am particularly concern with more bubbles with this modification, is there such a problem when you do this? could you direct me to an article were I can read about this and were to buy it? Thanks again

I've had my CS6-1 for well over 3 years now - still works like a champ. The Sedra 3500 has been a workhorse - but after 3+ years it's probably getting tired.........

I've kinda slacked in keeping up on RC - I see there is a bunch of stuff happening with ER. Are there any improvements to my original unit?
I have the gate valve but never installed it. I got a larger sump and that took care of the level fluctuations, but I'm still at the max height on the tube. Will I see any improvements if I install it?

Thanks!

rogger - do a search for gatevalve mod.

basically it is a piece of 1 1/4" pvc jammed into the output pipe (riser removed) then a gate valve, then a tee, then a pipe out the side of teh tee, then a 90 down to the water

Hi All,
I setup my new RC-500 two days ago on my new 450 gallon system. I only have the LR and sand in the tank. I thought running the skimmer during the sand storm would help get rid of the small particles in the water. That is not the case?

When will I start seeing the skimmate? Right now, the water level is not reaching the opening to the neck of the skimmer. I do not have an adjustable pipe on this skimmer, I do all adjustments just with the ball valve? What do I need to do to get this going.

Besides running the skimmer and having filter socks on the drain pipes, what else should I do to help clear the water?

Thanks for your help.

LunchBucket, Thank you very much for the advice, It was exactly that, The little air hole was clogged, the skimmer worked fine after that.

Thanks

Rogger

Bemmer close the gate valve till the water is somewhere between where the union is and the bottom of the cup, then adjust it hiogher as neccessary. Everytime you adjust the gate valve, give it time to reach it's level, then keep adjusting till it's dialed in as you like. Some people run it 3/4 of the way up the neck, basically so the top of the foam head is within the cup, take a look on the diagram that should have came with the instructions on page 4: http://www.euro-reef.com/ER Manual/CS Manual 8.5 x 5.pdf

how does the cs80 compare to a ES-5? what are the pros and cons of each and which one is worth more at resale value? i am trying to decide between these two for my upcoming 40 gallon probably with a 20 gallon sump. i intend to do SPS and i am not planning on swapping skimmers any time soon. i am buying them used and the i want to get the better one. the owner of the cs80 claims its about 4 months old and the owner of the Es-5 claims its about a yr old. i saw pics of the es-5 and it had calcium buildups all over the skimmer and it also had a yellowish tint in the inside of the skimmer. which one would be the better one to get? the cs80 looks clean like new but it costs more like usual. lol

No such thing as a ES-5... ES5-2 or ES5-3
All are 5" wide, same pump, but CS80 is 22" tall, ES5-2 is 20" tall, ES5-3 is 24" tall.
Otherwise the only difference is that ES models use extruded acrylic as opposed to cast... cast having better quality/durability.

You can DIY. There is a thread in this forum as well as quite a few posts in this thread about how to do it. You can also find info in the ASM club thread. ER sells a kit which comes with everything you need including the hole saw. You can find it here: http://commerce2.i2net.com/able5stores/stores/33/category.aspx?SID=33&Category_ID=585

IMO its too pricey though. But it will give you a good idea of what things you may need. HTH.

Hi my RC friends!

In about 3 weeks I bought with my dear friends of Premium Aquatics my new Euro-Reef toy, a RC 180.

Finally the monday of the last week the Euro arrived to my home her in Mexico city.

I am more than happy with it, works awesome!!! :eek1:

I put some pictures for u can see it.

Here is when the new toy arrives to my home and in the moment when I installed externally in my 90 gal. Reef tank.

And here the last pictures taked today.

Like u see the skimmer is working like a charm and really really I think Euro-Reef skimmers are one of the best in the market. :D

I hope u like it.

Cheers,

Mario from Mexico

Great shots Mario. Nice skimmer too. I have the same one. I have it on a 125 with a 50 gallon fuge. I get about that much skimmate every 3-5 days. The only thing I don't like is that I have to empty that stinking cup all the time

Cheers,

Jim
