Evaporation?

Just curious to know how much water evaporation you guys are having to replace a day? Right now with my 165gal I am losing about 11/2 gal a day.:eek2: . The tank is open top right now so i am eager to see what happens when I put one on.

Chris, build yourself a nice kalk reactor and do auto top off and you will want more evaporation so your tnak will get more kalk ... mine is about that much too (1.5 - 2 gal/day)

If you do a lid then you will block some light plus retain more heat so am not sure a lid is a good idea.

That is exactly what I have on my system and it works great. I lose about 1-1.5 gal/day on my 150 gallon. I agree no lid.

I'm wondering how high your lights are above your tanks? I think i need to lower them a bit. There about 6-8in above the water.

Mine are 10" above my tank 2X250 10k xm's and 2X250 20k xm's
and six 32watt 50/50 pcs.
on my 100 frag system they are 8" above the water 3x400watt hqi Geiseman 13k mega chromes.
On my Soft coral tank 12" above.
You have those 250w hqi blueline pendents right?

I didn't think they are hqi, but blueline e-ballast. I am running 20k reefoptics. I suppose the distance of them are fine.
