Ever have a particular type of polyp not do well?

Not growing fast but hasn't completely melted on me like the previous polyps I mentioned and is looking much better than my Spacemonsters and other nicely named cartoon polyps.:lmao:

Before my crash the spacemonsters grew like a weed for me. Almost as bad as pink n golds. I just barely got a few polyps in a trade again recently. Have you ever noticed growth spurts with your polyps Charles?

SMs do grow like weeds until I lost mine in tank crash. All JDWz all grew great until pox whipped them all out, worst pox ever seen even furan didnt help

Hello 650-IS350:
On the side, without trying to change the subject of the thread much, could you please explain why your tank crashed and what is that exactly in your case?
I have a hard time to understand tank crashes...
Thanks,
Grandis.

1- messing with vita C, for longest time I didn't know it messed with ur ph n alk. If u look at that thread it deosnt state it I believe till my slef n a couple folks started talking about it, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
2- couple tank moves caused a massive cycle,
3- other tank move stirred up old sand bed, waterr got screwed as detrius and other un processed materials got released into water column cause a monster spike in nitrates nitrites n ammonia...in no time wipped out whole tank

Oh, sorry to hear that...
Yep moving the tank can be really tough!
When I have to move my tanks I do in a 2 to 3 days period and I plan everything really careful. Fishes separated from display for a while... Rocks transported "dry" with salt water mist on them while moving... Depending on the bottom substrate, I replace it totally or partially, if it has been there for many years and it's really dirty... Never had a problem that way... The house is a total mess when I'm moving them!!! LOL!!!
The sand is the most important part, yes.
But I never had a crash like that yet. Thank God!!

In regards to vitamin C, I use Koralle-VM very slightly today, not vitamin C anymore. It has vitamins and other elements in it. I think any vitamin supplement should be administered through food, to be ingested and in very tiny amounts. I do put some drops in the water 3 times a week hoping the zoas could absorb some.
I beliebe that everything in excess will do some damage and the closest we can get to nature would be the best. We won't find excess of vitamins in natural salt water, so...

Please let me know what did the vita C do exactly to the alk/pH...
What vita C did you use, how much and for how long?
How did you find out that was the vita C?

Thank you very much for sharing!! I really appreciate.
Grandis.

it threw off my Alk and pH pretty bad, never checked it till I started seeing a lot of corals started looking bad, SPS bleaching and polyps melting

Wow!
How off were they?
Was it only because of the vita C?
Or the combination of other additives?
What did you do to stop that?

Grandis.

I have a relatively new tank set-up. I would also like to know the differences between certain Z's & P's. My tank has been up about 3 mos. I started stocking it after about 6 weeks. So far I have stocked 25 different Z's & P's. Not large colonies, usually only around 5 polyps, sometimes I get a bone and recieve 8-10 polyps. I wanted to set this tank up with only frags, no colonies. Of the 25, I have lost around 6. They just never did well. I even tried relocating them, which most of the time, ends up making matters worse. I like to get them, let them set for a couple days then put them somewhere permanent around the lower 1/3 of my rockwork. I am letting one Paly, just grow in the sand. One of my hermit crabs tore it apart. There are now 3 different pcs. I seem to have better luck with Z's than P's ??? I am wanting to save my sand bed mostly for Acans, but am thinking of just trying to find more Z's & P's to also put down there. I'd like to cover up my sandbed to increase my flow up top. I have all SPS up there with LPS in the middle. Not very good with names, plus I am color-blind. Most of what I order, looks different than what it looked like when ordered. So I just try to order what I like, that looks different. I have also found that it's not that easy to remove them from plugs. they do better when left on. Now most of my colonies are anywhere from 10-20 polyps. The ones that have survived initial acclimation and liked thier original placement are doing great. Some are already nearly as large as dimes. The first thing that I noticed, getting back into the hobby after being out for several years, was the smaller size of all of the polyps... I have one Paly that I fragged. I took it from the plug and glued it onto a chunk of LR in three places. It has done well. Started with 5 polyps, now have 9 polyps with around 4-5 more babies not yet fully formed. I feel that they do multiply quicker if split up. But on this frag, I experimented. I stuck 1/2 of the rock in the shade of my cave. The polyps in the shade have only added one more, but they have increased in size and the bases or tubes have extended. These polyps are 2-3 times the size of thier well lit brothers. They are about 1/2" from the rock, where the others are still hugging tight to the rock. I'm going to try to situate the rock at a happy medium to see what happens then.
