While visiting my LFS this weekend I came across an open brain that was cream in color with accents of literally the brightest neon yellow I have ever seen on a coral. I commented on it and the store owner said it was very unusual and the most intense yellow he had come across on that type of coral. I wasn't shopping for big pieces that day, so I didn't think much of it and moved on.
Well, later that day my well meaning boyfriend surprised me with it as a gift. The more I thought about it, the more odd the color seemed, so I did a little research. From the articles that I can find it seems that the coloring is most likely the result of extreme bleaching. Ugh.
Aside from the coloring (which is beautiful), the brain seems otherwise healthy. There is no damaged tissue and the feeding tentacles were out all night.
I really hate the idea of being taken advantage of. Before I confront the owner, does anyone know if there is any chance that this thing is legit? Has anyone ever seen a neon yellow open brain?
