ever wonder what lies 2000 ft down... under the sea???

K' Family Reef

this has been around for a couple years
some may already be familiar w/ this video - but it was just brought up again recently on the main reef forum...

its so incredible ('out-of-this-world') to see
that its worth bringing up again for anyone who hasnt seen it!

who needs proof of life on other planets
when right here on earth things such this creature are still being found... interesting that so much time/money is spent exploring outter space when a large part of this planet (oceans especially) remain yet to be discovered!

regards

this video was reported to have been taken at 2000ft under the sea

for 'perspective' - (and for anyone who has never been diving)
on the depths of the ocean and how much of it can be EASILY explored by man

the majority of recreational diving

is done NO DEEPER then around 100 ft...
personally have gone deeper then that (around 150ft - but this is more on the EXTREME side of diving) but generally speaking most (((SAFE))) diving is done no deeper then say 100ft... the longer one is down and the deeper they go the greater the chance of getting decompression sickness (AKA the 'bends')

and to further elaborate on this point
more then likely most 'general' diving (all the photos that people post of their dive trips etc) are only around 50-80 ft.

so iow

w/out special diving equipment/gear
we are 'stuck' exploring the ocean at around 100 ft... even to go 'that' deep -GREATLY REDUCES the amount of time one can SAFELY spend down at that depth...

so w/ this in mind
it is interesting to think about how much of our own planet/OCEANS remain yet to be discovered!

this is a photo taken going cave diving in cozumel...
(going into "devils-throat" around 120 ft)

I remember watching on Discovery channel one day about what seem to be a lake under the sea... apparently it's a pool of some fluid that's really dense resting on a bed of barnacle or something like that... anyone know what Im talking about? this was like 1-2 years ago

That fish video was cool when they first found it, and it's still darned cool. I wonder if there have been any new developments around the "lake in the ocean"?

that fish video is like nothing i have ever seen in my life
to say its other-worldly is an understatement!

updates -
do you mean like 'lake in the ocean' disappears bec of global warming !?!!!?????!!!!!!!!!
:sad2:

(wouldnt be a surprise update to the story)

I am in total agreement more money should be spent exploring the oceans.....especially since the coral reefs will be gone in 50 years.....but I'm a huge space buff as well......we should do both!...and I should be in charge!......first stop....a combination.....the ocean under the ice on Europa!...lol.

speaking of which....everyone should definitely get certified! 100 ft isn't extreme really....but most of the good stuff (except wrecks) is in 20 to 50 ft of water anyway!....

and if you're thinkin bout it, I happen to know a great instructor!....wink wink...

I saw that one... It was truly amazing the way the sub bounced off the the "water" and sent ripples towards the rocks....

There is lot down there. On top of that, there is a lot we don't know.
Until about 10 years ago, we had no idea there was any life at the bottom of the ocean. Then we find life as dense as a coral reef, with an entirely new eco system call chemo synthesis.
We know more about the surface of Mars then we do about the bottom of our own oceans.
