Please, find time to break away from your beginning of summer festivities and remember that brave men and women have given their lives, left loved ones behind in an effort to preserve your freedom.
Think about it, there are no words deep enough to thank someone for that.

It is a little disappointing that very few Americans recognize or even know the meaning of Memorial Day.

But I am sure many of us remember and Honor the brave soldiers that gave their live for us.

Makes one wonder just what it is that our soldiers are risking (often times, losing) their lives for.

It's like this every year. That's because most people didn't experience combat or lose close friends or family members. It was a large part of my life but I can understand the apathy as many people just will never get it.

DgenR8, thank you for taking time out of your day to express thanks for those that have served in the armed forces. However, I'm quite content regardless of someone else doesn't acknowledge my service to this country or not. Last year, as a wedding present, I took my son and his new bride to Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas and experienced an over-the-top 4th of July event where they brought up about 15 of us veterans to a stage. At least a 15 minute firework extravaganza above us, in front of us, and behind us while at least a few thousand people cheered for us. Grucci would have been jealous of this display. I was able to bring my son up on stage for this. I can tell you with complete honesty that it doesn't bother me one way or the other if someone chooses not to show appreciation for my service. I can tell you that that day affected my son a little, though. Don't be disappointed that people didn't post on this thread. I know there are people like you that get it. Thank you.

I never forget the loyalty to freedom from our service personnel and the fallen. There is a flag in front of my house 24 -7 to remind. I well up for the cost of serving the foolish but there are plenty proud who remember. Thank you to all that served and to all who are serving and especially to all who have lost. You are America

It's not a downer at all. I'm filled with pride knowing that the People care enough to volunteer to fight for our country. I'm proud to have served alongside many of them, and some who gave all.
