Hey all... These are some pics that Candace took of Ades babies.... These guys were about the coolest thing I have seen in a long time... They were pretty difficult to get excellent pics but these came out pretty good... The cardinals could litterally fit 2-3 on the face of a dime... So tiny ...

I can not stress enough how small , and tiny these guys were... The cutest thing I have seen in a fish tank ...Ever! .. That hanging net basket you see them in is only a few inches by a few inches and they were dwarfed by it ... Hopefully some day I will have this type of success in my tanks ...

Well I checked the little guy's last night and could only see 8 of the 11. Hope that a few were just hiding in the algae but I think not.

A sad day in the pen.
I thought that I would place an expecting pep shrimp in the same breeding pen as the cardinals. My thinking was whn she has the baby shrimp the cardinals would have food. Well as of yesterday I could only count 8, well when I came home from work today there are only three. I think that I saw a smile on the shrimps face.
Out the shrimp go and I know hope that the remaining three will have nothing to worry about.
It just tells you another thing about this hobby, you can not cut cornners anywere.

what a bummer, so sorry to hear. I think Charlie had something similar happen to him with shrimp tho I think his were ghost shrimp.

Ade , was really sad to hear about the Cards... I guess no amount of research and preperation will help in a case like this ... trial and error .... The good news is that you have 3 great little fish there and they seem healthy , outside of a rogue shrimp you have done everything you can to have sucsess ..... Keep us posted! ...

Well just to give you an update.

The three remainming babies are growing and holding there own.
Done a water change on the 33 today and fed the fish and the dad is holding eggs again. So I set up the 29 so that I could place the three to make room for the new babies in 24 days.
I read that it would take about 3-4 months before they would lay again, I guess that the female couldn't wait that long.

Ade

Congrats! I have a 29 that I'm thinking about doing as a "specialty" tank... Did you start with a group or a pair?

He started with a proven pair ... They produce like crazy , and seem extremely comfortable in Ade's set up ... I have one of the offspring here and he is as healthy as could be ...

I bought the pair from someone moving to another sate. Hard to pair up unless you have a good eye. There are a lot of tell tale signs to look for when find the right sex of the fish, but as in life you never know.

Thanks. I've been leaning toward a fowler tank or a clown tank -- but your success and the beauty of those fish has given me a third option for sure...

Well the three are in thier own tank and looking happy. I am waiting for the day that dad spits out the next brood. I have been thinking that tonight is the night, the babies are popping there heads and tails out but just don't want to make the move.

Awesome ...Keep us posted .... Candace and I will have to get out there and take a peekl ...and some pictures...
