Expensive Fish Loss

When I lost all my favorite fish due to the company I hired to move my tanks I threw in the towel for 5 years. Sold everything but my 34 gallon Red Sea max. Just know starting to play around with the idea of setting a tank up.

See that's what I'm thinking man! It's freakin frustrating! I'm bout ready to throw in the towel my self... Hundreds of dollars down the drain literally! Not to mention how much my wife and I loved this fish....

I loathe the loss of any fish...expensive or not. Treating an animal/pet like a $100 in my wallet sort of takes the passion out of the hobby. I guess if keeping fish was about money, I probably wouldn't bother and just go to the casino instead to lose my money :P

Heartbroken. Sobbing.

That's when I lost my most expensive fish. 25$ Solorensis wrasse.

A life is a life, no matter how cheap or expensive...

Heartbreak. I lost a bandit and crosshatch male along with two misbar Regals back in June, more recently I lost a false personifer pair and a scribbled. All were lost to velvet. We will call it $3K between those two velvet incidents. I treat immediately now needless to say

I was infuriated when my white tailed tang died. And, at the same time I knew I had done something wrong. So, I made a strong mental note of the loss and decided I wouldn't let that happen again. It's not fun losing prize fish. Heartbreaking is a good word.

Been in the hobby all my life. I like many, have lost lots of fish. I'm starting to become immune to it. When a fish dies I know it's usually my fault and I could have prevented it.

Yeah I see what a lot of you are saying. It's hard to lose any fish that's for sure even harder to know that It's my fault. I should have acted sooner.... This sux big time!

Decided 100% QT was the only way to go after getting $800+ wiped out by a stupid mistake. Fish should not die because I am lazy.

I've been in the saltwater hobby since 1973...I have hundreds of fish bodies in my freezer, in hopes that someday Drs. Foster and Smith will market a miracle cure!

Wailing and gnashing of teeth .....

Just out of curiosity, what was the fish you lost. The only way to ensure never losing an expensive fish is to just buy cheap ones.

I had a batch of fish, freshwater, that I brought back from college in Maryland, to Oklahoma, in tubs. I sat, totally cramped, in the back seat of the car, using a hand squeeze bulb to aerate those tubs all the way: used a plugin air pump at night in motels, repeat, for 3 days on the road. {Yep, this has a bad ending.} I set up beautiful new planted tanks when I got to my new residence. Everything ready for them to go in. Went to a movie with friends I hadn't seen in a long time...came back and the air hose connection had slipped. They all were dead. Big mated angels, all the rest.

I'm still at this, some few decades later. You can stop for a while, but the sound of water sort of gets into your head, and you're back.

So sorry for your loss. And by all you say, it wasn't really the money in your case, I think, but the high personal investment of hope in the fish. I say keep at it. The joy you get will outweigh it.

I just lost a 10 year old damsel fish this year, not expensive at all.It had a bit of an impact on me, ...like how I felt when David Bowie passed away.

Most expensive fish I've bought was $70. He's still alive, I think. A friend is fish sitting him until we move to the new house lol! Like most others I take any fish loss a little hard because I know it was likely something I did or didn't do. The hardest will be the clowns. They were my first fish and are still going nearly 5 years later. I've read that clowns can live 15+ so that's what I'm aiming for.

To us it was not the price $70 but the personality. We lost our Blue Spot Jawfish. He built dens in 4 spots and was always active. Ate like a pig and always came to the front glass when we came near. Awesome personality and very photogenic. Then one day he started eating less. Then his colors faded. Came home to him still alive but not moving and crabs and snails eating him alive. We were crushed. Now fish are just fish. Not much to get excited about. Now we focus on growing out coral more than the fish in the tank.

What happened for this to happen? was it from a mistake ? accident ?

I just spent $40 on meds for a $23 Bannerfish... didnt bat an eye... I purchased the fish... it became my responsibility... NO MATTER THE COST.
