Experience on Elongated Dottyback...

Hi,
Got a long awaited Elongated Dottyback yesterday... Decide to get it eating first before releasing, but it jumped into the main tank at nite...

For the whole day, i only saw it like a few times, playing peek a boo with me... Stick in and out of the rocks at different times... He seems to be very happy doing this...

Is this normal behavior, the thing i am worried about is, does it feed easily... Haven seen it eat and not coming during feeding...

Thanks...

Pseudochromis elongatus is pretty much a normal dottyback, bold and happy to feed on meaty stuff. It should be eating within a few days, otherwise there could be something wrong.

Just as another note, I've seen at least one Pseudoplesiops species which looks similar to the elongated dottyback. These Pseudos are much more shy, and you don't get to see much of them. It might be worth checking to be sure your fish really is an elongatus.

It is a pseudochromis elongatus... Dont get them often in Singapore....
It is only 2 inch in length only... and very secretive... It is the totally the same as those found on the Web...

I would just give it some time then. Many fish hide for a while when introduced to a new tank, dottybacks included. Once it feels safe and happy, you'll see more of it.

Okay... I always get paranoid when the fish is very small and jumped into the main tank when i feel it is not ready to go in yet...
lol..
Will see if it will come out in a few days...

Somehow it managed to eat while in between the rocks, the stomach is so big it seem like it is going to burst...... But dun come out often... Saw a few glismpes of it...
