I had no ammonia and a hint of nitrite on the 8th. I went to the store and had them test it and they suggested I do a water change. So I did a 10 gallon water change on a 60 gallon system. They also suggested that I add 32 oz bottle of fritz nitrifying bacteria. The directions were to turn the protein skimmer off for a few days after so I did that. I tested the levels on the 9th and it was .25 ammonia and .25 Nitrite I was assuming that it was normal because of the additive. Then I tested them again today expecting them to go down but they haven't. The ammonia from what I can see is .5 and the nitrite is .25 still. I just plugged the skimmer back in tonight as well.
you were no where near cycled. you should have seen 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and some degree of nitrates before you added anything. do not dose removers or change things, as removing the nitrites will only slow down your cycle
way too soon for an anemone
Be careful with the Anemone since it's such a new tank. When they die they make an awful mess. I'm still hesitant to get one because my tank has only been up for about 9 months. Most experience reefers recommend waiting at least a year before buying one.
I wish you the best of luck though.
as far as the anemone goes, loss of color, gaping mouth, inability to hold onto rocks are overall bad signs
