Fail's SPS 14 Gallon Biocube

Well, this is an american forum, so the assumption was logical, though the lack of named corals in my setup, would be a dead giveaway. I'd be all over those if I lived in the US :p

The edited pic looks much nicer. It's difficult to photograph your reef under leds. Any plans of purchasing a DSLR cam?

I don't do names. If people want to go through and document my corals, be my guest. Ain't nobody got time for that. At least I don't. I do try to differentiate between the types: across, mills, caps, enchinata, whatever I think it might be.

And very much so. T3i is on my list for this wonderful thing we have in the states... A tax return. The government is actually going to give me money back that I have loaned them. Weird.

But alas, there is a whole other thing... Learning about the damn settings and how to shoot. I have a 500 dollar macro in mind for the glass other than the kit lens. Tripod, bag, batteries, other lenses... This is going to get expensive.

I keep my parameters at:

7dhk KH
430ppm Ca
1350-1400dkh Mg

I have the first chamber with an Innovative Marine reactor tumbling GFO.

Second chamber has my InTank Media Rack. Filter floss/Lignite Carbon/Chaeto top to bottom.

Third chamber is the heater/temp probe/upgraded return pump.

I change the filter floss about every 3 days.

I have a reefkeeper lite with 2 power bars. It basically runs everything minus dosing and top off.

I dose manually. Hardly dose Mg. 5ml part A and a little less part B of B-Ionic.

I feed once or twice a day depending on how hungry my Six Line looks. Spectrum New Life and A+.

Occasionally I feed mysis and Ova.

I feed BRS Reef Chili at night every once in a while. Maybe once or twice a week.

I currently buy my water from my LFS. I'm moving soon so I will be making my own. I got the RODI 4 stage sitting in the closet right now. Haven't decided on the salt brand yet.

Thanks for providing the extensive information.

By named, I meant the cool aquacultured frags that you guys have access to. It's very difficult for me to source any good frags.

Cam equipment gets real expensive real quick, like this hobby wasn't expensive enough already, lol

No worries, Sahin. You have some awesome pieces in your collection.

It seems like I'm seeing a lot of the stuff I really want from your area of the planet and Canada.

I have 1 go to shop that I use now and like MAYBE 2 other shops I visit on occasion to check for random pieces.

I know there are tons of online SPS sites that have literally all the stuff I want, but I am too scared to order anything because shipping sps scares the crap out of me. Maybe one day I will. More reasons to buy a bigger tank... :D

How's your experience with the innovative GFO tumbler? I have a sps biocube 14 with the stevesleds but am trying to get my filtration straight. I do 4 gallon w/c's a week and i'm still getting some GHA and bubble even with diligent care and feeding every other day. I'm worried about shocking my system with gfo…

I think it's great. I do have bubble algae. I syphon it out as needed. Hair algae not so much.

I would start at a half recommended dose of GFO. It will shock your corals in this size tank if you don't introduce it slowly. I did a half dose for 2 weeks. Then 3/4 dose for 3 weeks. And then full recommended amount for a month.

This coral is starting to color up nicely. The tips are blue and white with nice contrast of the polyps.

It's hard to get a good picture of it because of my terrible choice in placement.

I turned the blues almost off... It sorta helped, just need to get that camera. February can't come soon enough.

Thanks again, Bello. You are the man.

That definitely helped

My blue and white are on the same channels, so no shut off options. Plus I don't have dimming, just basic and simple DIY led. Had a really hard time with pics until I started shooting in RAW.

Hope you get a good enough tax rebate to buy a kicka$$ cam

Oh and Merry Christmas

Thanks for the well wishes, Bello.

Merry Christmas, my friend!

We are making a frag tank to free up some space in the Lil' Cube.

Sump is made, but i may have to revisit. 20 is drilled for Herbie drain. Return, skimmer, and power heads are sitting in a box waiting to get wet...

I'm moving in February to an apartment, and the lights and stand will be made.

Planning on trying a Sunlight Supply T5HO 4 bulb because it's cheap and comparable with ATI bulbs. And that will give me an opportunity to try T5 for the first time.

That seems like a good call on the T5's. Should give you some good experience, while not burning a hole in your pocket

I'm not very familiar with biocubes, so will the 2 systems be linked with a common sump, or independent?
