beautiful fish snorvich. well worth the 2000$ for all of them :)

how long have you had the male flame??? Im doing someresearch on how long they last. :)
thanks and again, beautiful fish

I had heard there were issues with flame males so my flame male is part of a one male, four female harem as insurance. The females are at slightly different stages of development and I can figure out which one is the most likely to change if there is a problem with the male. All have been with me for two months. All seem well but you never know.

they do look nice :) Brian has great fish and is a great guy.
i've had mine for 7 months and he seems to be going strong. im just hoping he doesn't just drop dead. Im bringing home 2 more females for him to enjoy.. i feel like a pimp!

im going to try a pair of rhomboids as well if i can find a nice male. Most of the males in the trade and overall are always submales with little male coloring.

any more experiences with male flames?

Yeah flames are strange, mine just died for no reason. I wont try them again unless i get a few females. I think males do better with i little harem. But then Bronco has had his single male flame for a couple of years now.

I also believe the LiveAquaria wrasse is a Condei, and indeed it is way overpriced.

How many people have taken to watching the Divers Den on a daily basis?

I already picked up a mis-identified PinTail. They need to focus more on the reef fish.

The c. johnsoni originally had a bit of a squabble with the flame females but all seems settled down now. The rhomboidalis, johnsoni, flame females have similar size, shape, and to some degree coloration. The male earlei is similar to the flame female so there was initially some chasing. No current squabbles. In my other tank, there is a lineatus and rubrimarginatus that are the same size and similar appearance. Initially the lineatus was chased but all is now settled down.

I too watch Divers Den. Not always properly identified, sometimes overpriced, sometime underpriced, but always of interest.

My male flame has squables with my male hooded wrasse but they get along great. My flame wants to be the boss of my tank but the lineatus takes that title.

Scott, is the hooded wrasse the aggressor?

Nope, he kind of keps to himself, the flame on the other hand is the aggressor. He likes to flare up to my hand when I am cleaning the inside of the tank...LOL

My johnsoni hangs out with the smallest flame, the eightline and the hooded wrasse. That johnsoni is definitely one of the most aggressive eaters. Largest female flame flared at the hooded wrasse, but only the first day beginning. Pair of lineatus aren't bothered by anyone.

Guys, I need your advice... how long do you think I could keep my male flame in a 29 gallon rubbermaid for? I am going to be taking down my current tank and starting up a 180gal, but I doubt I'd be able to get my flame into the 180 right away... might be a week or two.. any ideas? Or am I better of selling him to someone who can take care of him and then getting another one once my new tank is established?

G

As long as it is covered, good circulation, and filtration he'll be fine. If your having good luck with him, i wouldn't recommend selling.
The main thing will be jumping and filtration.

I would put him in a 10-20 gallon tank (they are cheap) before I would put him in a tupperware container. keep it covered.

rubbermaid tub doesnt equal a tupperware container lol.. I have a 20gal acrylic...you guys think that is better than the 29 gal rubbermaid? I also have a 48in long frag tank but its only 12 inches tall....advice?

G

well I put him in that 29 gal rubbermaid with some rocks to hide and corals....skimmer is an RPS3000 raterd for 400gal, so I think I have filtration down...flow is from a maxi 1200 and 600 (tried two 1200 but it was wayyyyyyy too much)...

I then tried to light it up with my 250w DE MH... oops...temps went up to 84.7deg.... couple of treatments with icecubes in ziplock and back down to 79deg... no more MH... you guys think an 85w 5100k light would be ok for now? I dont have much light loving corals, just some acans zoos gsp...

Both the solarensis and the flame seem ok, they are eating.. they were so easy to catch...i have them trained to eat out of the cup LOL

G

If there are no corals or other photosynthetic inverts, lighting is not necessary. The 85w light will be more than enough.
