Thanks. I have had no problems adding fairy wrasses of different species EXCEPT when I wanted to add a male linneatus with a male rubrimarginatus. I knew this would be difficult because of similarity in size and coloration. It eventually worked, but it was hell for a while. I was most specifically wishing to know about adding a female with an existing male of the same species.

as I said, I added a female balteatus to an existing pair and a female exquisite to an existing male. Those fish were no problems. The Scotts male on the other hand....

Moonpod, thanks, that is exactly what I wanted to know. I missed partial sense of your previous posting. And I also forgot to check your tank size, which is large. Good information!! I will go ahead and get the female; they are difficult to find (here). I see you are using my picture as your avatar.

Hi everyone, quick question :)

I have gotten the wrasse bug and I have started to stock my 135g mixed reef with these awsome fish. I have a few compatability questions I would like to ask before I purchase any more fish.

My current stocking list in my 135g is:
5" Clarkii Clown (female)
6 Lyretail Anthias (1 male 5 females)
3-4" Solar Wrasse

I currently have in QT the following (they will be put in display by end of the weekend):
Hectors Goby
Red Sea Sailfin Tang
3" Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse
4-5" Pink Margin Fairy Wrasse

So far everyone in the QT has been getting along great and I am hoping they do the same in the display.

As for future purchases I would like to get the following:
Single Labouti (Can I get a smaller one?)
Potter's Wrasse
Pair or Trio of Flame Wrasses

Will these guys get along in my display? There is plenty of rockwork and open swimming room and currently little aggression in my display.

Thanks for your help!!!

Any help here guys?? Thanks!! :D

Well per Bronco's suggestion, I acquired two very young cleaner wrasses. In my large tank, the Genicanthus angel (Watanabie) allowed immediate cleaning; the fairy wrasses do not allow it yet. In my fairy wrasse tank, NONE of the fairy wrasses will allow him/her to clean even though it shows an inclination to WANT to clean. Any idea why the fairy wrasses won't allow cleaning?

Thanks in advance.

adding more then one cleaner is no a good idea. They will compete for food and one will die eventually. you shouldn't put more then 2 cleaners in any size tank unless it is in the hundreds of thousands of gallons. Good luck though. are they eating frozen? I always get hawaiian cleaners to eat frozen.

Two cleaners are in two different tanks (I have 3 tanks). No, they are the normal kind per Bronco. Perhaps the Hawaiian cleaners would be better? I put them in more for parasite control than any other reason but Bronco said the wrasses flash when cleaned so that would be a secondary benefit. The wrasses definitely WANT to clean, it is just that the target fish will not allow it.

I got an african cleaner wrasse (looks like a regular blue cleaner) and a red sea 4 line cleaner. They both eat frozen, flake, whatever and clean. I've seen 'em hover around the fairies, but I've never seen 'em clean a fairy. The funnier thing is to watch the cleaner shrimp track the fairy wrasses down after they've bedded down for the night and then watch the standoff---should I clean 'em....should I let 'em near me with those claws????

moonpod: Carefull of that Red Sea cleaner if you have SPS. They are NOT SPS reef safe. Had to tear my 120 SPS tank completely down to catch him.

I'm not an sps sort of dude.

On that note you mean the little black wrasse with 2 electric blue stripes on each side? hard to believe that would be a sps menace....

Bronco/Hiroyuki- Could you give an ID on this Juv fairy

My beautiful rhomboid is having air bladder problems, he is still eating like a total pig but he is not swimming right. Anyone ever had this problem and this fish cured on its own? Any medications out there can assisit this fish?

Scott

I've had some that the problem just eased off after a few weeks. In fact, I have one in my home tank that I "rescued" because I thought it was unsaleable due to the fact that a month later he still had it. Now it is the most beautiful fish in my tank and fully recovered. GL!

swim bladder infections or problems are the hardest things to treat. The only thing you can really do is just wait it out. I dont believe there are any meds that treat it. g'luck. It will stink to lose such a beautiful fairy.

moonpod: Yes, that is the guy I was thinking of. Sold as Red sea cleaner. If I didn't see that littlle guy take polyps and leave a white mark each time I wouldn't have believed it.
