zenya, I forgot to mention how much I like your photographic images (and, of course, the fish). I don't have this species because I heard they are semi-aggressive. Do you have other fairy wrasses in that tank? Where did you get them from?

Thank you, Steve!

I don't have any other wrasses in that tank and so far I haven't observed any aggression between any of the fish, established or this two newcomers. :)

I got this fish from Marine Center in Dallas.

Well, as promised, some pictures. First are a couple of C. roseafasciata followed by what Live Aquaria thinks is C. Lanceolatus.

The new arrival ate garlic soaked mysis right out of the bag. At this point there does not seem to be anyone offended by the newcomer but I will still give it more time in "solitary confinement" to make sure.

I am a terrible aquarium photographer.

achillesheel, where did you get yours? Mine, as the world knows is accidental. But I would love to find a female. By the way, he really wants out of his isolation booth as he can see all the happenings on the reef.

zemuron114, the first one is much nicer than the picture shows. If I had used flash, you would have seen the more subtle colors that make it a gorgeous fish. Are you able to get either of these fish, ideally in females? Rhomboids?

its actually funny. i got it the same way you got yours, through live aquaria's diversden. it was labeled C. lanceolatus also. it wasnt until i posted pictures of him that i knew what i really had. thanx tanaka:)

what is dissapointing is the weekend i ordered it, before he was deliverd, i lucked upon a juv/female in los angeles and picked her up. i acclimated her very carefully and put her in an in tank qt just like yours ( the bronco method). well i went out that evening and came home she was still there. when i woke up in the morning she was gone. she must've escaped and because she hadnt gotten used to the tank and the other inhabitants hadnt gotten used to her, i assume she didnt make it. i never saw her again. so ive been on the hunt ever since. the la fish store is supposed to let me know if they ever get anymore but you know how that goes.

I have a local fish store here (deep reef aquatics) that specializes in Fairy Wrasses (and butterflies). Jeff has had that fish twice that I know of but I was never quick enough to get there and get one.

I have had great luck with the Bronco method (although I use a different custom made isolation separator) but I have had one or two escapes. Fortunately they made it. My most difficult socialization was with a Pylei male and a Lineatus male. But they did make it, perhaps because the tank was relatively large.

There is a fish on LA Divers Den now that may be C. lanceolatus but I cannot see the ventral fins to be sure. They seem to get a reasonable traffic in that fish. This is perhaps their third or fourth.

the one on live aquaria has been there for a while yeah? or is it a different one? I'd get one but i have to much red and pinks already :)

im in the same boat. i really want a pair of rhomboids again when i do my tank move/upgrade. right now all i have as far as fairies go are the 2 roseafacias and the pin tail. i have plenty of other colors in my other fish.

Actually, the one on LA is a different one. Apparently they get 2 per month. I keep hoping for one that is really C. lanceolatus but so far have not found any. The advantage of using LA is the leverage they have with their collectors coupled with their excellent guarantee.

So, I keep hoping and occasionally get lucky. There are a few more interesting ones: C. morrisoni, C. sanguineus, C. lunatus, C. blatteus. Maybe some day . . .

achilles - i thought you got some from Brian?

snorvich - im under the impression LA goes mainly through Quality Marine... In that case, they do have leverage, but not with collectors direct. Most collectors, especially Cebu (the guy at the LFS here is good friends with him) will not ship to retailers directly and have a "thing" with Quality (ie: ship mostly to them) LA doesn't get anything direct except the usual (philippines, indo, bali, sri lanka , and maybe australia) Other then that, they get everything through a wholesaler. Any LFS can get those places transhipped through Los Angeles. things secluded like Cebu, marshalls, x-mas island, have to go through a wholesaler first (either Los angeles, or Hawaii)

i did get a pair but lost them during the summer when my ac went out when i was out of town.
still looking for a good pair but i put it on hold til the new tank is up.

Anyone have a fairy that is being called the Koi Fairy wrasse?
What is it or does anyone have a picture of one?

Thanks.

That could be it.
I've seen it listed and decided to bring one in.
I got one in today but have not looked at it really well because I keep the lights off in the receiving tank rooms on arrival day.
I'll give it a good look over in the morning.

Thanks again.

it may not look like that. there are quite a few variations to them. the actual males will be almost white with red blotches, and females will be more of a pinkish color...

post a pic if you get a chance :) not to many actual males are in the trade.
