phil, i keep all lineatus together and there is never any fighting (even between multiple supermales) Since your pair isn't established you shouldn't have a problem.

well my new guy did not make it...died in qt...but i am getting a new fairy....i think i am going with the rosy scale fairy...i love the color in those guys...i want to know how much they run for a pair??

We are very interested in getting a Scott's Fairy Wrasse. NBD13 posted some great suggestions. I have a 75 gallon tank and almost at my fish limit, so we will get one SFW only. Can anyone clue me in on how to tell the difference between males and females? We want to keep it colorful and fear a male only will lose it's brillance, so leaning towards a female at this point. I cut eggcrate to get prepared for eventual purchase of SFW. Current fish were very spooked and hid for a day and a half. I took the eggcrate off and they did not come out for almost a full day. Am keeping off eggcrate until closer to the purchase. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. What the difference in color of Fiji SFW? Thanks.

scotts will not fade dramatically without a female, just a little. A faded male will still be better looking then a female. A big male (like 4-5") will keep most of its color. The supermales i get from australia are gorgeous. I personally like the australian scotts better than the rest :)

They do get big and sometimes mean, so it is good your adding it last. The Fiji ones from what i've noticed are not as brightly colored and look more smudged then the aussie or cook islands.

Thanks for the info. Any advice on best way to get an Australian Scott's. I live in Pennsylvania. My LFS has always gotten reliable fish, but his two main suppliers have not had SFWs listed recently.

i have only seen a handful of scotts on my aussie list in the past few months. The weather may not be permitting them to go out as far as usual to get the fairies. A lot of fish are seasonal as well. Just have him ask the suppliers. They will come up in the next couple months.

Heres one, not so good.

Tried to take it when it was flashing, did not come out so good. I will try and get a few more pics of him when he is flashing the female.I also forgot to take a better pic of those pink palys for you Marvin

I was wondering if you have seen your fish do this also? I have a pair of Lineatus in my 240gal and the Male will flash the female. 3weeks ago I noticed my C. Rubripinnis male flash for the female Lineatus and now today I saw my large male Scott's and Punctatus flash for the female also. They definitely aren't flashing at their reflection because they are doing it next to her.

LargeAngels,
Very nice pitures and a fish. Keep your eye on its flashing behavior to photograph.

bubbaOPPD,
Any photo of their displaying colors ? C. rubripinis male shows a brilliant broader blue area on throat to chest.

Nice shot Largeangels!

I've noticed that all my wrasses flash at eachother from time to time regardless of sex. My male Lineatus is always flashing at my female pylei, maybe he thinks she's a Lineatus :)

So i've decided to try putting the vanuatu pylei with my sulawesi in the main tank. The sulawesi pylei flashed him about 4 times and then stopped. My female pylei seems very interested in the new male. I know some of you say that i should not attempt this in a 72 gallon but i'm going to go with my gut feeling and also per Mr. Tanaka and give it a shot :) Wish me luck!

You seem to be lucky I have asked 4 of the local LFS for a Pylei for over a year and they can't seem to get them. You would have thought I was asking for a Unicorn or Sasquatch or something.

bubbaOPPD: Sent PM.

I'm quite happy with my pylie's although they don't flash that often, but I will try to get a picture.

LOL, not lucky, just have a couple of good LFS here that bring in nice fish :)

BubbaOPPD, give the guys at fantasy corals a call. That is where i got mine. I dont think they have any Males right now(they have a female I think) but i am sure they will let you know when they get one in.
Regarding the flashing, mine flashes the female quite regularly. I will try and get some pics tonight.

I guess you are right, must be a NYC thing because i just helped ID a rare Pylei from Cebu that one of my local club members just picked up from Petco for $20.00!! He thought it was a Lineatus :)
