Thanks for all the info guys!
Today we found some really neat looking wrasses for $14.95 and 19.95 (this place is so cheap and the guy doesn't know what type he has..just calls them all wrasses) Anyways, we got another blue flasher, 2 solar wrasses(males) and I believe 2 female solars? I'm posting a pic for you to I.D.
The other wrasse we bought was very difficult to see under the dim lights there...but we think it's a exquisite?? I took the picture of it in the bag and its actually a lot darker then what it shows.
Also, can a group of solars go together? 2 males and maybe 2 females? if added all at the same time? or would that be a no no.
thanks so much in advance.

Neptune,

The acclimation process is inbedded in this very large thread. I've been away for a while so I don't know how far back it is. This thread has split 2 times already. I'm sure if you search using specimen cup as the key words you'll get it. Really, it just involves using the specimen cup to give new fairies some time to get their nerve up towards facing established fairies who are a bit territorial and pushy.

If I can find it I'll post it again. Still I suggest you do a search.

Fairy wrasse ID

Hi all,

Recently, I have aquired this fairy wrasse. Adding to my current collection.
However, I have a hard time identifying it even going through some online database.

Could someone please help me with it.
Thanks,

p/s: sorry if the photos are the the best.

These new pictures of the Scott's Fairy Wrasses are too cool. Great colors. Man, I am jealous. Best of luck to all and keep us posted through pictures. Thanks.

Wow..they have to be one of my fav's...just gorgeous. Mine is really laid back and isn't at all aggressive, but very social it seems. What about yours wrasseguy?

mine is very laid back...the scotts that i have had before was very mean...but this one just chills and does his own thing...i have not seen him chase any fish but has dispalyed some to the lineatus...and the fine spotted...but other than that he has really been a nice easy fish.

for those interested, reef tank supply just got in some rhomboids, lineatus, balteatus, and hawaii flame fairy wrasses. These guys are starting to get a rep as the rare wrasse kings in our area, and they ship... too rich for this rookie though :)

I did not know the Scott's Fairy could be that aggresive. That got me nervous. Did yours nip or just chase. Was it aggresive towards species other than wrasses? Glad to hear both of you got lucky with the new ones. I have a peaceful tank and have at the most a few chases, but no nipping. I had a problem with my yellow tang chasing my flame angel. I rearranged the live rock and made more hiding places and tunnels. Now, there are no issues.

Bronco and H. Tanaka,
Can you please help me out here with a few questions. Firstly, can either of you please try to I.D. the wrasse I have posted on page 37. It's the bottom picture and I've thought it was an exquisite...but I'm wondering if it is a female or juvenile? sorry the pic is so bad.
Also, can you keep solar's together as a group? I have a established male in the 180 and have bought 4 more. (2 males, 2 females) they were so cheap I couldn't help it! The 4 are together in a 20 quarantine right now. What do you think the best way to split them up is? I have two 180 gal tanks. The established male is the largest out of them all. Thanks so much for your help!
cheers

It is best to introduce male and female members of a harem together but it is possible with proper social acclimation (specimen cup) to introduce females later. More than one male of this particular species is unlikely to work in tanks the size you are talking about.

Hey wrasseguy2 I saw a male C. katherinae yesterday around our area for only $40.00. It was the first time I've seen one in person. Let me know if your interested & I'll pm you the location. Does anybody have any good pics of this fish?? Dr. T or Bronco???

Lynn,

First of all the picture on page 37 on the top - That is an Exquisite fairy, looks like a juvenile to me from the lack of red coloring.

Secondly, if you have an established male in one of the 180's you could add the two females. Still do the specimen cup acclimation to gain greater acceptance. The other two males can be placed in your second 180 and introduce them at the same time. Hopefully they still are fairly young and unestablished. Let them decide amongst each other who's going to be the dominant male. In a tank that large they may be content in splitting their territory in half or 70-30. The male that doesn't take the dominant role will likely become a dormant male and fade a bit in coloration. At that time you might be able to move him over to the other 180 tank with the females and if a small miracle happens, you may get him to revert back to a female to enhance the harem size for the dominant established male. Still do the specimen cup acclimation to measure the dominant male's reaction. The younger the wrasse....the greater likelyhood it is to make a sex change.
