wow.. Dr. Tanaka, you don't have any issues with all the wrasses and angels fighting and killing each other? and how often do you feed? and only 20%-25% water change every month? do you use a skimmer?

do you mind giving us a list of what you have in that tank? if my calculations are right, your tank is approximately 48"L x 18"W x 18"H... does this sound about right?

Thanks
Marvin

Norberg, I have.

I just added a pink margin and a lubbocks. Just like you the bimac frantically searched the tank for the 2 new fairies. After the first week things settled down and he leaves the fairies alone except for the occassional chase. He never injured any of the fairies though.

Hey folks,

Here is one that is being pimped by the wholealers as a new species in the trade. They give no species name and a common name of Koi Fairy Wrasse... I'm always a skeptic, so I thought I would post in this amazing thread and see if anyone has further information on them.

Thanks

looks like male adornatus... Common from Bali (atleast on my list)

not that rare at all. An actual male (like the one pictured above with the white) is kind of hard to get.

i could be wrong, so lets see what others have to say!

I would agree with male adornatus. I've seen a bunch of them sold locally as Koi Fairy wrasse.

I was wondering if this is an adult male, it flashes to the juvenile in my tank but this one is not the blue green color I see in the pictures of the males especially Dr. Tanaka's pics. The picture is from awhile ago he is more colorful now but still the mostly maroon color.

Live Aquaria had a pair with the male that looked just like that in their Diver's Den section this morning...just looked, it's gone now.

Everyone has a Lineatus..... except for me =(

Still looking... nothing outlast the reeferbeef... it keeps looking and looking and looking...

Liveaquaria has Lineatus for sale, I highly recommend them I got a male laboutei from them it was supposed to be 2.5-3" but it came to me at 4.5" and in great shape.

Live Aquaria only has sub adult/females available....

I'd prefer to pick up just 1 dominant male rather than getting two and waiting for one to switch...

anydarnthing - it is a male. You can tell by the 2 fins on the belly are longer. Females dont have these at all, and lack the dark purple lines running down the body (these lines on females are usually faint and dissapear before the tail - atleast the ones i bring in.. lol)

nice male though.

Here are two male specimens of C. lineatus. They can change colors on moods from bluish to brownish.

Also males have very long pelvic fins, well reaching the center of anal fin. If the fins are short the specimen would be in a shift from female to male form.

"A" shows three phases in color from usual to display.
"B" is a different specimen in display. Note the fin-coloration.

Hello Hiroyuki!

what is you explaination for the variability of the tail fin coloration of C.lineatus? I have never seen the red fins version here.

Update on by Austrailian bathyphilus: One female migrated to a male and even with the 2,3 there is no aggression between the males.

How long do Fairies live on the average? I had a big 5"+ Solorensis fairy for 2.5years and I haven't seen him in 2 days so I know he is dead since he was a pig of an eater.

Ummm I'll take A1 togo please... Xpress shipping to Cali

gorgeous fish Tanaka.... I drool everytime you post more pictures... especially of that Lineatus!

False alarm, I found my Solorensis in the overflow, but I would like to still know how long fairy wrasses live in optimum conditions.
